Yup, this is correct. Might want to do this later. Worst thing about this is re-downloading all your digital games after the upgrade. On a mobile broadband internet plan with fixed monthly quota like I'm using now (no Unifi here), that is going to be a b*tch.
*
You can backup the whole HDD (including all application data + those free PSN games) into another alternative HDD then restore them back into the new 2TB HDD. Tried and tested it myself, didn't redownload a single game smile.gif

QUOTE
1. Make sure you have the latest firmware on your PS4
In order to make a backup of your system, you need to have the 2.50 version (or above) of the PS4’s firmware installed. You can check the current version in Settings -> System Software Update. In case, you don’t have the latest firmware, you need to download and install it first.

2. Format your USB drive and external hard drive
Note: you only need to format your external drive if you want to backup all your game data.

Format your USB drive and external hard drive (see note) in “FAT32”. On Mac, you can do that by hitting the erase button inside the Disk Utility app. Windows users need to right-click the drive in the “My Computer” window and select “format”.

3. Backup your PS4’s saved data, settings and game files
Alright, let’s finally start with the upgrade. First, you should backup ally our data, so that you don’t lose anything during the process. Plug in your external hard drive and head over to Settings > System > Backup and Restore > Back up PS4. By default, all your saved data and settings will be backed up. If you also want to save all your downloaded games, then make sure you have enough space on your hard drive and check “Applications”. Continue with selecting Next. Your PS4 is now going to restart.

Ah, thanks! Interesting...did you use a 'normal' 2.5" external hard drive for the backup? Just plug it into the USB port of the PS4 and all set? How about non-free PSN games?
*
Yup, I just plugged in normal Seagate Backup Plus Slim HDD to the USB and did the backup.

All my free PSN + disc installed games are backup and restored successfully. Depending on your size of data/games, it will takes few hours to do so though sweat.gif

Wow, I didn't know one could do that. As for me, I just backed up my saved games & capture gallery photos/videos to a USB thumbdrive prior to the hard drive upgrade. Alright, will keep this in mind in case I want to upgrade again in future. Thanks!

You are welcome! biggrin.gif I have attached the screenshots below for your reference/estimation on the time needed to backup/restore smile.gif

I'm not heavy gamer. how much memory a game needs normally? if purchase, digital copy, it would requires more space, right?
can we upgrade the HDD ourselve or we need to send it to sony center?
*
Not just the games. You will need space for future game updates / system updates as well so its better to have bigger capacity.

You can buy the 500GB console then DIY the upgrade to 2TB and this will not void your warranty smile.gif
