Folks, Im in the mist of helping a cousin setting up his AV room 12X14ft ot ideal but thats what he has.

Right, looking at Denon avr-x2300w or 1300; any thoughts on it or its over kill?
https://www.whathifi.com/denon/avr-x2300w/review

For viewing looking at Projector

And obviously needs speaker as well thinking on 5.1 would do since the room is small

Appreciate your feedback...its been a while I worked on these and out of touch with latest technology and offerings...Cheers

Want to share my recent AVR experience.

I was here a few months ago asking about getting a new AVR. I wanted to get the Denon X2300W or the Marantz SR5011 to replace my old Yamaha RX-V371. I found a used Denon X1300W for a good price so I grabbed it. The features were good compared to my old AVR but the sound was very thin and not as exciting even compared to the yammy 371 I had previously.

A month later I sold it and bought the Marantz SR5011 (I actually made a gain because I sold the X1300 for a higher price than I bought it). I am happy to report that I am totally awed by it! The mids are just amazingly solid and my "docile" PSB sub just came alive and I can now feel the sub in my face and chest instead of just hearing it. Truly amazing to see such a big difference between these two AVRs, especially since the X1300 is only 1 step below X2300 and SR5011 in terms of product range.

The only shortcoming of the SR5011 is that the highs are not as exciting as the Yamaha was. The highs sound good and solid but doesn't tingle the senses like the Yammy did. I suppose the Yammy is a bit bright and the Marantz is warmer. Well, you can't have everything, but overall I'm very happy with the upgrade and feel that its a very worthwhile upgrade.

I would also say, that the X1300 is to be avoided. It's really not worth the price. Either spend more for the SR5011 or get a budget Yammy which may not be great but does sound a lot better then the Denon.

Good review there, but I think you are comparing different class.

Marantz SR5100 should be compared with Denon X3300W; btw both are under the same parent company

Hi Sifu, since my budget is low, looking at second hand unit with 9.2 channel or above.

Was looking at Denon AVR-X6400H and Denon AVR-X7200WA. Or any other equivalent recommendation is fine as well.

Also suggestion of any used store (other than style laser, hifi4), do let me know as well. Thank you.

Carousell got 1 seller Rex something, specialist selling used Denon AVR, I think I saw those 2 models he advertised.

Thanks mate, ya in touch with him, unfortunately those units are reserved, but got the idea from his sale page, seems to be good units with punchy in power.

No consider used Marantz SR7013?
*
I like the unit and its features, but when it comes to power, its kinda lame, especially I dont use a sub, since I have 2 huge front speaker.
I had been planning to get a new amp, for long, but just my old Technics unit just loves me alot, lol. It a pure 100w drive per channel, rated 500W.
I was thinking to get a new unit with all the bells and whistles and use my Technics to drive my front speakers or use it as a bi-amp. Unfortunately during my hall reorganization, my son accidentally plugged the amp onto transformer port rated at 220V instead of 110V cry.gif

Previously I have setup 7011 and 7012 for my family members, felt its power is not even half of what I have when fully driven (all channels).

7013 is rated at 125W at 2 channels (8ohms) compared to the those 2 Denon at 140/150W. So driving all 9 speakers, would bring it down easily around 70-80W, I guess. Personally I prefer Marantz, but thus far couldnt find any on sale yet.

Lets see, 125W is my second line of defense, if I cant get a 140/150W amp.

Mostly demo unit and it cheaper than used unit probably. Wait for their clearance sale.

I know...there is nno argument between woofer and subwoofer, biggrin.gif but since I have 4 12in woofer, I would like to drive with it first. After getting my new amp, if it cant drive it, then I may consider a sub.

This is the speaker I have

What model are you comparing ? A3080 has a unique feature of surround AI that marantz and Denon don’t have.

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Feb 19 2021, 02:46 PM)
Against which Denon/Marantz model? Be a bit more specific.
*
Actually it was a general question when I posted. my circle of friends generally are on denon/marantz hence was wondering. Since on paper the spec for yamaha looks solid and generally has higher power, hence was wondering how it translate to real world. I suppose to go Desa home for a view, unfortunately we are still under mco, hence didnt want to risk it crossing district.

These couple of days was looking at A3080, vs Denon x4500, x4700, X7200WA and x6700. compared to those yamaha is almost half the price.

Thanks alot guys for your valuable input.

Thanks guys for your valuable inputs! rclxms.gif notworthy.gif thumbsup.gif

Just realized one of my cousin had A2080 so went to play around with it, as many of you indicated, the manual controller on YPAO is just superb, I liked the sound as well, kinda more sharper than D&M and yes cooler as well, but its expected, since Yamaha engineers manage to use smaller power supply to power it up to that extend! A3080 is only 490W compared to other which runs around 700W.

Anyways, finally bit the bullet and going with a little older model Denon X8500H since it has 13.2ch.

End game model. Later on you can send in to Denon to upgrade the HDMI board for 2.1 functionality if you need it.

Do check out Ratbuddysey though, makes it as powerful as manual YPAO.
*
Thanks thanks...when I saw the YPAO, it was very similar to my technics (but obviously not on phone, have to do it on screen, but every single fields can be tweaked, that was sweet.

Im still new on zoning, etc, hence need to learn on it as well.

Now anxiously waiting for delivery..... rclxm9.gif

From your experience how do you would setup 2 front speaker firing all the time for both movie and music?

Thus far, I know I have 2 option either make my second pair as Zone2 or just straight fire it from the speaker output by setting it large, but Im not sure what are its loss and gain, until I play around.

Aiyo, really difficult to answer, which I had been asked gazillion times, to be frank, maybe its just an old habit from tons of years ago! Since my ears are so tuned to it, I just seem cant leave without the extra power. Probably I like the bass it provides, its similar to modern term of bi-amping, which I thought of using, unfortunately my amp is fried.

First of all, thanks to all whom had help me decide and thanks for all your input, appreciated notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Finally got my X8500H setup over the weekend....New toy to play around, used manual setup and then audyssey, pretty impressed with the MultiEQ.

The AVR remote is pretty handy as well. Still fine tuning and moving my speakers to play around and playing with the graph! hahaha

Setting up Speaker A+B to play together was pretty straight forward, I was afraid it would be complicated since Im not familiar with the menu.

One question, though, did anyone manage to configure the Denon remote to control Astro ultra plus box?

I have setup my TV, but Astro (Samsung) code given, doesnt seem to be responding
http://manuals.denon.com/AVRX8500H/preset/...PresetCodes.pdf

Appreciate if any info here, thanks

Can't help you with Astro as I already cut that shit.

But on other point of Audyssey - make sure you get the app and also check out Ratbuddysey. These 2 things alone will get you 90% of what a minidsp + calibrated mic + REW will do for you.
*
Right right, totally forgot about that...will test ratbuddyssey out!

My parents needs them, due to local channel...hahaha, cant run away from Astro.

I had Astro plugged into DVD HDMI port, but denon didnt like the RC code starting with 0...so had to move it to Aux2 to key in the code, yet it doesnt recognize

Next let me see if I could setup UnifiTV as well...hahaha

BTW, do you use a fan for your receiver? Mine gets as high as 60C at high volume

Denon and Marantz receivers are notorious for running hot, most of the heat isn't coming from the amp section but rather from the HDMI and logic process board.

For my Yamaha A3080, it barely gets lukewarm. So no fan needed for me, just AC is good enough.

Ya, realized that after reading it from online users. will be getting a cooler, just dont want to rush into buying, just ordered some HDMI cables, since mine are just 6GBps cables. Used the amp to test out the cables...cool feature though!
