Why is there no love for the Tannoy V1 / V1i bookshelf speakers?
It's only RM900 per pair and IMO its great value for money.
I really love the sound signature especially for music. Should do great for movies too as the drivers are the same as the ones in the V4 floorstanders which are great for HT.

I think Tannoy speakers provide great value for the price. Only downside is the local distributor.

Didn't get to listen to the Klipsch RF7 II last weekend.

Instead went to my granduncle's house to listen to his Magnepans. Still in awe of how smooth and rich the high end detail were. The speakers totally "disappeared", placing the sound in uncanny valley. Those ribbon tweeters are real stunning stuff, never harsh, never fatiguing, it's just soul striking.

Too bad he doesn't like a lot of bass and thus only have a single Wharfedale D8 sub so the low-end stuff was not to my liking.

thumbup.gif magnepan looks cool 😉

Looks is one thing, performance is another. To really drive the Maggies, an external amp would be ideal.

Great listener have to spend more 😉...external amp it means power amp right

Yes, an external power amp.

Many things need to upgrade though, the projector is the first one (it's still only a JVC 720p lol). A newer pre/pro and at least a sub upgrade.

Still the best bookshelf I've ever heard are the Sonus Faber Olympicas. I don't think they are the best in the world, but certainly to my ears; still the best thus far for me.

That said, we need you-know-who pockets to afford them.

Haha yup u r correct bro...the design looks cool

I have been using rear ported speaker for last 5 years compare to another pair of speaker I used front ported for 3 years. I will say the bass part is not much different but of course they are different speaker. You can't really compare Apple to apple

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Jun 3 2016, 03:13 PM)
If you want to go technical, the differences can be listed down a long list of paper. But in real-world and subjective hearing, the difference are much more down to preference and usability.

People would use front ported bookshelfs/towers/sats if they absolutely need to place it right up against the wall due to space issues (very common in SOHO or studio apartments). This prevents port flaring for one and bass can be increased due to the close proximity against a back wall (again in a small space, a sub may be difficult to place).

But if you were to place a pair of front ported and rear ported speakers at the usual optimal location (2-3ft off the back wall, 4-6ft off the side wall), the differences are usually down to preferences of the listener.

In fact it's difficult to even compare apples to apples because a rear ported bookshelf design cannot have the same properties as a front ported bookshelf even if they are from the same manufacturer, done by the same designer and integrated by the same engineer.  I mean the front baffle itself would already need to be different in shape and size vs a rear ported box. Not to mention countless other things like the crossover, the phase, the size of the driver and so on. It's simple physics, you just can't bend it.

There's never "best". It's more of if you are satisfied or not. There are many people who are satisfied with TV audio and they don't think any bigger speakers will have an improvement. So there's that.
*
Yup there's never best out thr nowdays...but nowdays people have to change their mind tv speaker getting smaller :-D

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Jun 5 2016, 08:16 PM)
Uhm, it doesn't work that way. sweat.gif

It supports wireless speakers via bluetooth in STEREO only. Those wireless speakers are also active speakers, not passive. The DN1070 is not advanced enough to do a mix between channel processing and using the internal amps for whatever it is connected to simultaneously.

I thought you have already decided on the Sony CS speakers for the front? I'm still totally recommending that.
For sub, depends on your budget really. I honestly would suggest to get a good sub (SVS, REL, Rhytmik) that lasts you a decade instead of one that lasts you 2 years then you decide to throw it away. I'm exeggerating of course, but you get the point.

Glass is the worst surface for any kind of speakers to be used against. You mentioned curtains, I hope they're thick.
I cannot tell you where to place the sub because each person's living area is different and subs perform signficantly different in various environments. Placing it in the front and at the corner is a common place to start, but often times (especially since the surface next to it is glass) may not sound the best. As always, do the sub crawl.

The Sony 9200 are actually quite rubbish speakers. Better than most of their soundbars perhaps, but you won't get much authoratative or immersive audio out of it.
