Hi guys, glad to have found this forum that talks about something that I need help on

I have a set of old home theater fr Sony but the receiver is already faulty not worth to repair. Thought of using the speakers (subs and 5 speakers) for good use. It uses wireless (I think infrared front and back to send audio signal to the back surround).

Any idea how I can use them? Only worry is its infrared is proprietary and I can't use them for any type of receivers?

I recently bought a basic Denon AVR (x250bt - no Audyssey), a Mission centre speaker and Pro Sub 800 to complete P4 Audioengine bookshelfs (got tired of soft movie dialogues). I'd like to get input from all sifus here regarding the optimum setting for the speakers:
1. Subwoofer crossover (40-150Hz)
2. AVR crossover
3. AVR LFE / LFE + Main
4. AVR LPF (I think it stands for low pass filter)


I googled a lot and am now very confused. The P4s go down to 58Hz, so do I set AVR crossover to 60Hz and match Subwoofer crossover to 60Hz? Should i select AVR LFE so all LFE goes to sub only? The sub seller recommended that i set sub crossover down to the minimum 40Hz. Please help

Thanks for your input. Chose the Klipsch center speaker cos it's the only one with a height less than 6 inches in order to fit my tv rack. Had different brands for surround speakers cos I thought it wouldn't matter and would like to experiment on these 2 brands. Do they really sound that different? Sorry for being a noob here, never really experienced surround sound with a proper setup before. Just HT in a box.

For surrounds, it's fine if you don't match them to the front mains. All surrounds does is make effects and ambient noises. 90% of a movie's content comes out of the front LCR (the major bulk of it from the center) and the sub.
Not very accurate on the surround channels that is best to be in the same brand as the fronts. You can match surrounds from any manufacturer as long as the speaker can keep up with the fronts. Meaning if the fronts can go down to 50hz, the surrounds should at the very least be able to do 60hz. Matching is a myth.

in your opinion do you think in ceiling or the downward firing speaker would be the proper solution for atmos?

Fortunately it comes with Audyssey Low Frequency Containment band which I find it handy    according to the manual its written. Anyhow i dont really listen to music too loud on max about 55 the volume, dont want to mess with my neighbours 

usually what is your casual listening db level? mine -23dB only coz house too small...

2. can diy by using mobile apps
3. buy receiver that support tuning

+ The A3080 ran MUCH cooler than the x4500h, it's a night and day difference. It's only half a joke when people said you could boil an egg on top of Denon/Marantz AVR...

From your experience how do you would setup 2 front speaker firing all the time for both movie and music?

Thus far, I know I have 2 option either make my second pair as Zone2 or just straight fire it from the speaker output by setting it large, but Im not sure what are its loss and gain, until I play around.

Aiyo, really difficult to answer, which I had been asked gazillion times, to be frank, maybe its just an old habit from tons of years ago! Since my ears are so tuned to it, I just seem cant leave without the extra power. Probably I like the bass it provides, its similar to modern term of bi-amping, which I thought of using, unfortunately my amp is fried.

Reading r/hometheater it seems that SVS subs are regarded as some of the best subs one could buy.

But the price for SVS here are pretty high assumingly due to shipping, import taxes and whatnot. Prices from Maxx Audio:
PB-1000 PRO - RM4099
SB-1000 PRO - RM3579
($599 & $499 in the US)

Are there subs from other brands available here that is comparable to the SVS but cheaper (due to being widely available, lower shipping cost etc)?

Rythmik is sold in Malaysia, slightly higher priced than SVS
