Civic Turbo review is out @ Paultan
I've long suspected that the engine would behave in a similar fashion. It's fast, but not THAT fast.
*
Its due to CVT characteristic. It doesn't FEEL fast... but it's already fast once u look in ur speedometer. Coz it's even outdrag the USDM Civic Si with a 2.4L NA!

A very good article. Better than the Paultan version.

So yea although the upcoming Civic is a much better deal than the current model, its still lags behind the Mazda 3 in terms of overall driving dynamics and value for money.

And yes many ppl still don't realise that the Civic Turbo is actually a single-scroll soft turbo. Many ppl are expecting it to be like the VW Golf or BMW type turbo. You are going to be very disappointed especially since the Civic Turbo comes with a significant turbo lag.

And if you want an idea of how a turbo feels like when paired to a CVT transmission, check out the Audi A4. Even though it has 320Nm torque, the turbo 'kick' is not really there because of the limitation of the CVT.

I really don't know why Honda bothers to equip the new Civic with the CVT. CVT is only for those who want a comfortable, linear pick up with good fuel economy. Those who buy Civics are a different breed from those who buy City's. The CVT is a noisy transmission when pushed hard. Spoils the whole driving experience.

I beg to differ in term of Mazda 3, the civic is definitely more value for money with generous of equipment offer and with bigger cabin and boot space. Mazda 3 only good in driving dynamic.

The reason why Civic uses CVT i guess is to target broader market.

CVT is like 'digital inverter' of electrical appliances with linear power usage and good efficiency to save electricity laugh.gif

if just a small family, y does interior space an issue? Ok for a young bachelor professional that can afford c-seg, are they going to worry about space issue?
*
Interior space certainly an issue here in msia... usually ppl who opt for C-segment will have space as one of priority in choosing their car. Item like baby seats, baby bags and stroller take into account.

Car like Ford Focus and Mazda 3 which have small interior definitely left out by these groups of ppl. These groups stands the majority ppl in msia.

D-segment pricing too high for some who going to start small family.

If space isn't an issue they can simply go for compact B segment like Mazda 2 for driving dynamic or even ford fiesta.

this is one thing that i am furious about Malaysian cars - interiors are always blackish! Even the new Mazdas came into the local market with black interiors, when we can only drool from here seeing the international market getting black + white combo for their interiors

It's also part of the reason why FD2's interior felt so upmarket with its dark blue + white theme. Compared with 9th gen Civic 2.0, FB2 looks like shiett!
*
Bcoz due to lack demand for lighter interior color making manufacturer to go for all black as all black interior demand is higher according to some reliable source.

It saves the manufacturer cost too and making standard for all variant. hmm.gif

Agreed 100%. The Honda Red makes the car look too feminine. Pinkish under certain light. But many ladies (my wife included) dislike the Honda red. Very different to the Mazda Soul Red.
*
Yes, i guess they shud include the new exclusive 'Carnival Red' from Honda Jazz... that red at least looks sportier and merrier than the 'dark ruby red'

Toyota needs much more than a new chassis to keep up with Honda now. They lost the B segment to the City, the SUV segment to the CRV & HRV and now they will lose the C segment to the Civic. That's a huge whack on all 3 fronts.

Honda has set a new benchmark for the C segment with this new Civic. Very rarely do we get a car that offers a great design, a spacious interior and top notch specs for a reasonable price. You normally get 2 or maybe 3 factors but not all 4.

Well done Honda!

Yes agreed!

Current Honda car line-up in general really cater to each different groups/ category of people

In my workplace, we have 3 people with 3 different Honda.

1 lady with new Jazz coz she usually travel alone or with bf. Another one with new HRV as have the need to carrying goods. Me with the new city bcoz of starting small family.

I think Honda now generally in the best position to take over as the best performing non local car brand in any segment. biggrin.gif

Weirdly when i saw the maintenance cost of both civic turbo and civic 1.8L, the service cost of the turbo seems cheaper?? It even cheaper than city too...

Can some owner explain or enlighten to us... smile.gif

Never owned turbo car before, can anyone tell me whether other Turbo car like BMW or Merc or WRX or Fiesta ST do have the same maintenance style as the Civic Turbo?
