With Grab, when a Promo ride is cancelled by either driver or rider, it is considered used.

By limiting the redemption, user will have no choice but to use Grab as first choice if they wanna use the promo.

Some platinum riders will get a free gift from Grab. Uber thinks they can beat Grab by throwing out tonnes of promos. Grab took a more personalized approach to rewards their loyal riders. At the end, we know who won.

If you are within the Medium-Upper class category, and are comfortable to own a RM150k-180k range car (A CRV/Camry/Accord), but not comfortable to hire a full time driver or being asigned one by your organisation, why dont you try to live like a boss with Uber and Grab without buying a value-depreciating asset.

Say you take a 9 year loan, you are to pay the bank about RM1700 per month just for the car. Insurance is about RM1600 in average with maximum NCB per year. Road tax about RM 200. Monthly Petrol about RM 500 for 50 litre tank, and Tol cost around RM 200. Service about RM 600 every 3 months. Parking cost about Rm 150 per month

So if we pro rate it per month, here is the cost

1) Bank loan : RM 1700 p.m.
2) Insurance: RM 1600/12 = RM 133 p.m.
3) Road Tax : RM 200/12 = RM 17 p.m.
4) Petrol : RM 500 p.m.
5) Tol : RM 200 p.m.
6) Service : RM 600/3 = RM 200 p.m.
7) Parking : RM 150 p.m.

And by the end of 9 years, your car will be devalued to almost nothing left  maybe 15k or 20k. Which is about the downpayment left.

Your monthly commitment to own a mid range car is the sum of 1-7 , which is about RM 2,900.00 .

Without this commitment, you have an average RM 2900/30 = Rm96.7 near to Rm100 per day to spend on Uber and Grab car!

A close distance ride will only cost you RM5-15. While a long distance one about 20-25 (KLCC to my house in shah alam on non peak about 35 for uber). I am sure with this you get to enjoy

1) the fun of not having to look for parking
2) you get to play with your phone properly or call/text while commuting
3) no need to take bus, Lrt, mrt etc
4) no need to worry about recharging touch and go
5) no need to waste half day to service your car every 3 mlnths
6) no need to worry about renegotiating insurance coverage sum or pay road tax every year
7) no need to care about petrol price everyday wednesday evening
8) no need to worry about hidden or additional cost caused by road accident, or got heartache minor wear tear and scratch
9) no need to worry about alignment and balancing everytime your car steering vibrates.
10) get to save about RM 1000 extra per month, which after 9years will give you Rm 106,000! Way more than what your 9years old car worth.

Dispose your car now and convert fully!

Good idea but the peak hour surge pricing freaks me out. So Grab has not done enough to reward it's platinum riders.

I'm almost near Grab platinum. If Grab doesn't give platinums good promo codes, I'm reverting to uber.

Promo fully used at 3:30pm today. To be platinum, I need to spend at least rm800 via credit card in 6 months. Now I'm thinking.

At this time, no point spending so much to hit platinum yet. Grab is still competing with Uber for the general pool aka promo users.

Nowadays user are too used with free rides until they think uber/grab owe them a favour. It has created a new culture of kaki tempang aka one star rater/rider. Just use uber/grab when needed, not use uber/grab because it's free. No difference than those cheap skate eating free tester food at shopping malls. Just because it's free, doesn't mean u must try aka eat it.

The only reason drivers driving for uber is the cancellation fee. The only reason why uber riders behave well is the cancellation fee.

Tried uber today. Indeed the waiting time is almost 15 mins. And the driver is one month old.
