QUOTE(drbone @ Apr 13 2018, 08:40 PM)
Bros I’m expecting my first born in end of May. And am planning to do shopping now itself. I’m from Melaka and would like to ask , Is it worth it to travel to ikea to buy a baby cot and play pen ? I would actually prefer to just get the stuff online and use. U credit cards.
Can I get good quality ones online ? Any suggestions ?
What else do I need ?

So far , this is the list I made :

*
few pages back got a super long detailed list someone made. can cross check with that.

heres my comments:
1. 2 cots with mattress and pillows
as for ikea playpen and cot. o didnt like it. so small and also low. i bought one from mamours which has 3 settings and can use till kid is 5yo as you can remove one side. the top setting is great with new born. so dont have to reach all the way over to put baby down/pick up and also drop the side and can be changing table at the same time.

2. Blanket
no need. dont put anything on the baby that the baby may accidentally cover their face with. cause they have no idea how to get out of it. swaddle is enough. also baby dont need pillow. and please dont put toys around their sleeping cot. worried about SIDS.

3. mosquito net
if your home have lots of mosquito, then ok, if not many, then no need this thing, just gonna be annoying to handle all the time. and what if didnt realise and trapped the mosquito inside with baby. gg.

4. Changing table with dresser
as for changing table, as above. didnt think necessary as we used our cot. saved space. all baby stuff also just put into the exisiting dressers we had around the house.

5. Changing pad to be put on the mattress
get a big one. make sure water proof. and get a small travelling one to change in the shopping malls later. just for hygeine purposes.

6. Bathing tub
get the ones with rubber pad. will help from turning bath time into a slip and slide. and the soap also buy the press type. cause when bathing one hand always on baby. no time to let go baby and use flip top type soaps.

7. Pampers , socks , mittens , new born wear
dont buy the pampers in big bags first. some brand cause rash. so just try a few first. recommended: Goon, Mamy Poko. cheaper: petpet also ok but need to change more often.

8. towel , bassinet

9. napkins
buy those big cloth ones too. this will need a lot.

10. breast pump , pad , storage bag , sterilizer - getting online from mylovelybaby ( fb site) , RM 699 for pump and RM 88 for accessories , but without sterilizer

11. baby stroller - need to know how big the baby is
no need to know how big the baby is. almost 100% confirm baby will be below 5kg LOL. even my son is 4kg still use normal new born stuff. just buy with for new born. but i recommend just getting the newborn ones off a friend. only use for short time, then you will upgrade.

12. car seat - need to know how big is the baby
same as above. just get the new born one, borrow if possible for the first one. then replace with a normal baby one later.

13. Baby carrier
dont need till later. anyways very easy to pick one up. i bought one and used it once then gave away as it was too troublesome and my kid got too hot inside.

14. Baby bouncer
good to have for fun. no need fancy ones. recommend not to allow baby to fall asleep/sleep in this thing. best to teach baby to sleep on normal bed or carpet. dont influence their sleep by rocking/movement. you will be in hell later if they can only sleep by swaying/rocking.

Thanks a lot for your input. Puts a lot of things into perspective. By the way, regarding the other detailed explanation, I can't seem to find it. Any idea what keyword I can use to look for it?

eh. sorry i also cant find it. maybe another thread.

anyways a lot of things not so rush lah. people always make you feel like 1001 things to do. but actually not so urgent. i guess you live near a shopping mall right? worst comes to worst, just go and buy it as needed hahah.

one thing you should get for your waifu though is nipple cream. start using before the child is born, just in case. many women get a lot of pain from breastfeeding. so that soothes.

my biggest note for new fathers. YOUR WIFE IS NOT A MILK FACTORY. not all women shoot milk like endless aquifers in heaven. so going formula is OK. dont let people make you feel like shit for that and please please dont make your wife feel like crap if she cant produce milk. i hate seeing that. if the guy so die die think wife need to BF, he can fking pull milk out his own nipples first then talk.

Haha why so much of anger bro?
On a separate note, how to warm up the expressed breast milk after putting the excess supply into the freezer?
Also, is it worth it buying vouchers from AEON for now to buy clothes and other important things that might be needed once the baby is born? Meaning, are the prices for these products in AEON hiked up?

And yeah bro, I do stay near a shopping mall.

LOL. wait till you have baby. even walk into the formula lane of supermarket, the promo ladies also "you shouldnt give your child formula, breast milk is best" all the time. even hospital nurses all say the same thing. everyone and their dog always will make that comment. then tak tahan just say lor "my wife no milk, you want my baby to starve?" then no comment di. first week or so, only maybe like 100-200 ml in total. not everyone can make milk. my wife cry for days and days because no milk and feel like failure of mother they all dunno. just know open mouth make comment only. so i manyak rage on this topic.

to warm the milk can just put the freezer bags in warm water to bring the temperature back down. make sure to check for leakages in the bags. if lucky, wont have many bags that leak. our one around 1 out of 6-7 bags will leak out.

also if waifu not much milk can take the herb halba/fenugreek. can buy from supermarket for RM2-3/bag. no need those special ones from the baby shops. damn expensive for the same thing.

i dunno about buying vouchers. i would assume better dont get it cause cash is king. aeon prices are rather stable throughout. i buy powder there and other small stuffs (tip, dont get talcum, bad for baby lungs, buy the cornstarch type). but you can get a mummy card, they will have discount days to buy baby stuff. also dont stock up on formula. thats a hard thing to sort out. same like diapers. but for baju and things can wait for sales, or other promos. good is if you can get a supermarket cash back card. for tesco and giant, got lots of kids things and can buy and get cash back.

Your paediatrician should have a vaccination schedule for you. Follow that. And don't know lose it bcos you'll need it when registering for primary school
