Why did Jesus unleash the Law?
QUOTE
John 1:17 (NIV) - For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
There are many people who are still ignorant about the Laws of God, unable to divide properly whom the Law came for.
The Bible stated very clearly, God created the Law for the unrighteous. Everybody on this planet has a conscious Moral laws written on their conscience. Nobody is exempted from this.
They have to suppress this truth in order to live a different lifestyle other than what God has in mind a righteous lifestyle that is naturally to live by.
For the Believers, we are put under Grace and not the Law.
John 1:17 says the Law came through Moses BUT GRACE and TRUTH came through Jesus Christ.
According to John 1:17, Jesus did not come to give the Law, He came to dispense Grace and Truth. But if you read in the synoptic Gospels, Jesus DID unleash the Law many times and that many times it is of higher requirement, one that actually stop you in your track and make you think if you're able to.
If anyone is honest enough to admit, you'll know nobody can keep it perfectly or at least consistently perfectly. And yet the question remain why.
The Big Question.............. Why did Jesus unleash the Law?
You know, before I proceed to answer, I'll say this straight away, and I want you the reader to keep this in mind; The Law was never God's main agenda.
God started in the Old Testament with Grace and Ended in the New Testament with Grace. The Law crept in between. So back to the question why did Jesus unleash the Law?
The Answer is found in this passage Romans 7:21-25
21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
The purpose of the Law is designed to drive Man to the end of Himself. "Oh what wretched Man I am! Who will rescue me? (Romans 7:24)
Galatians 3:19 Says it very clearly in NIV ver:
Why, then, was the law given at all? It was added because of transgressions until the Seed to whom the promise referred had come. The law was given through angels and entrusted to a mediator.
What Galatians 3:19 means is that the Law was given to show up your Sins. It was NOT designed to justify you. It Cannot. Only the Blood of Christ can.
So if you take the Sum Total of the verses in understanding why did God give the Law and Why Jesus unleashed the Law, you'll come to understand:
The Purpose of the Law is to help you understand you cannot by your own merits justify yourself to God. It is impossible. You need Christ the Saviour and that is GRACE dependant.
Just Check in the Bible and you'll find this to be true. Jesus unleashed the Law whenever anyone wants to come to God via the Law. Check the Parable of the Rich young Ruler, Check the Stoning of the Prostitute at the Temple, Check the Parables that Jesus spoke whenever He was surrounded by Crowd of Pharisees.
And Also Check this in the Bible, you'll find this to be true. Jesus unleashed Grace whenever anyone comes to Him and needed his Grace. Check the Lame Man carried by the 4 friends, Check the story of the Blind, The Leper, the Prostitutes. No Laws Given, Only Grace! Check Zacchaeus the tax collector!
So as a New Covenant believer, we need to be soaked in the Grace and Truth of our Lord Jesus Christ and not the Law else we will face a dead end.
God Bless.
