I think DUMC is not suitable for a lot of people. Its causing a lot of damage to people's lives. They are teaching people that you get blessed by serving. I believe Paul meant by blessing is that you get the self satisfaction of helping people, the happiness of being there for people. But DUMC teach its congregation, if you serve, you will become successful in your career, find relationships, marriage, have children you so long to, etc etc. Its just to exploit people because DUMC needs the manpower to run its ministries. Seriously, its too stretch thin.

That's why at DUMC, nobody cares about each other because everybody is working hard serving to increase their "treasures in heaven". I see no difference from the chinese praying to those Gods and ask them to be bless with monetary goods. This is just the same, because everybody is hunting for currency...everybody here step on each other, because they believe they have the right to, because they serve more than you. Nobody want to serve because the goodness of God, because they genuinely care for each other and people out there.

Every Sunday I hear the pastor say, be a blessing to everybody. Hey ! What about to each other???? So we just put on a fake face and be blessing to non christian but once they are saved, then we not bother about them? So fake.

That's why so many poor disillusion people there are single. I saw one guy who used to work full time for DUMC, he decided one day to resign and move to another church, although he never say anything about DUMC, but he look so relax and in his own skin, when he is with this other church.

Actually the word of God that inspired Paul to penned down the word Blessing in the context of serving or giving, it is not the blessing of self satisfaction or happiness.  No where does the Bible says that. I am zealous for the truth of God's word. If there is something that will help you and set you free, I will painstakingly explain with endeavour so that you can also taste the goodness of God and believe and receive the blessings yourself.

DUMC is right when they say you'll be blessed by serving. That is according to Hebrews 6:10. And as a church we should serve one another. This is according to Romans 12:6-8 with whatever gifting that God has imparted to you. Every Child of God has a gift.

. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then  each; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

If you look at how God has bless his people in reality and in the past and even in the recorded passages of the Bible, you'll understand that we have a Big Hearted God who does not just give for you to scrape by or to make you miserable. You have a very poor opinion of God's dealing with his people.

When Jesus multiply the 5 loaves and 2 fishes, was it not enough or more than enough? If you can answer that, you will know what you think of God is not true.

The following verses does not denote internal satisfaction or just happiness; they are tangible blessings.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) - For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Proverbs 19:17 (NIV) - Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have done.

Luke 6:38 (NIV) - Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

2 Corinthians 9:6 (NIV) - Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.

Hebrews 6:10 (NIV) - God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.
The problem right now is just your bitterness against DUMC. You gotta let it go and free yourself  from this. if you want to move on to another Church, move on but have a right perspective of God's blessing. Don't downsize or downplay what God can or cannot do with the blessings stated clearly in the Bible.

May I ask, how are you so sure that the verses you pointed out only refer to "tangible blessings" ?

All encompassing blessing that would include spiritual and tangible blessings. VERY Very Sure.

In verse 1-5 of 2 Corinthians 9 talks about Gifts given to the apostles by the Church, that is tangible.

And in this verses for example:

2 Corinthians 9:6-11

6 Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.
7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
9 As it is written: “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor;
their righteousness endures forever.”a
10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.
11You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

Verse 7 is talking about tangible giving. if it's intangible there is no stress of "compulsion". God inserted the word Bread  tangible.

Interesting. I never really had deep thought on "tangible blessings", which is something I will want to find out more in the future from scripture.

But is there absolutely no "spiritual/intangible" blessing (ie: happiness and satisfaction) at all for serving people?

But when God says you will be rewarded. does he say you are rewarded on earth or your inheritance in heaven?

You see, what DUMC is trying to portray wrongly is, you will be rewarded in terms of your goals and dreams you want on this earth. If you want a wife, you serve, God will reward you. If you want a good career, you serve, God will reward you. If you want to be a doctor (your dream job aspiration), you serve, God will reward you. If you want to peace in your fighting family, serve (God will reward you), if you want peace in your office, solve all your problems, serve (God will reward you).

Sounds like DUMC is trying to exploit its followers. Its into so many ministries, it needs all the man power possible, so they are trying to mobilise everyone. To them serving is actually participating into ministries ! As you said, serving is also serving one another. What about when a cg member parent is sick, we go pray and visit his/her parent ! But I don't see any of that??? When my father was terminally ill (my cg was no where near to be seen). My brother and I prayed for my father, he was miraclely healed through the surgeon hands. When I went for my water baptism, non of my cg members turn up !

And serving is only limited to participating in ministries??? huh? Not true. What about starting and managing your family. Isn't being a husband and father is a ministry in itself as well? Isn't that serving as well? DUMC seem to conveniently neglect this.

DUMC is right to say you are blessed when you serve, but they do not explicitly say you will be blessed with what you want, right? You be blessed in terms of maturity in christ, the self satisfaction, the internal spiritual growth, probably other material means which you may not request.

But DUMC tricks us into believing that God will give us what we want if you serve them 110%. If this is true, as i said, then why my auntie been serving so long, then she got "blessed" with stroke at the age of 50? And what about my cg member who serve, until he left his accounting profession to go into charity org for years, only to realize recently all the time he serve, did not reward him with a christian wife whom he yearn and pray for all along? He is 45 years old now.

Then there is another friend, he quit his full time job to work full time at church for 5 years. But did he come out matured? Nope. I found him a very offensive prima donna analistic friend to be with. Everytime I am out with him, I may accidentaly hit his "hot keys", he gets angry so easily. Then his gf left him because he was too dogmatic. Everytime they had an argument, he would quote the bible, to try to justify he was right, but he was neglecting his gf's feelings as he was acting like a bully. He is like that to everyone....at first he may resemble a good nice guy when you first meet him, but as you get to know him, he is like an analistic annoying guy that you don't want to get to know. So serving has reinforced his anal behaviour....so how ca that be a blessing?

He serve in nepali ministry, he serve in camp org, speeches, church admin work, etc etc...but non of that serving specifically bless him with improving his behaviour in handling people. DUMC lack bible study, lack courses for improving one's behaviour. How is  he blessed?
