Check out ice wine festival there are some pairing info.because sweet is not always good/the best... Dessert wine many times is drunk like a dessert not meant to drunk like wine. Which is why they are 200ml or 375 ml and cost more than avg wine. Best is very subjective. Few ppl understand or appreciate dessert wine This post has been edited by patryn33: Jan 29 2016, 07:55 AM |

Hi all,
So we have tried this Lumbrasco from Reunite.. I personally find it okay, not too bad.. Certain reactions i got from friends generally are 2 types : 1. Heavy drinker find these are lousy, probably due to sweet and tasted like sparkling juice. 2. Lady drinkers find it very pleasing due to sweetness.. We were drinking at our normal CNY chinese food dinner only though.. We are not really those who knows how to appreciate wine, we are just drinking for some fun of it.. |

Lady drinkers find it very pleasing due to sweetness.. We were drinking at our normal CNY chinese food dinner only though.. We are not really those who knows how to appreciate wine, we are just drinking for some fun of it.. personally feel dessert wine can't pair well with chinese food, because strong sweetness may further de-appetizing especially in usual chinese dishes/heavy dinner, e.g. shark fin, scallope-mushroom-broccoli, roast pork/duck,... strong oaky red will be over-powering the dishes, and not friendly to non-drinker... sourness in white wine (suppose to wash away the fishiness/oiliness) may cause non-drinker to think this wine must be sucks, how come taste sour ...so usually will get pinot noir for the occasion that not too sweet like dessert wine, not too overpowering, with certain acidic taste (winemaker dependent)... but could be expansive for good one. for budget wise... i think mcguigan merlot ~rm50-rm80 (not sure what series, middle tier should be fine) is quite ok that is considered quite fruity but not as sweet as sweet wine... |

But really thanks for the enlightenment on how to enjoy our red wine more We were choosing red wine this time so that we can be more healtier, compared to our normal beer.. How about red / white wine that we should choose if we were using them for cooking purpose? |

Why would anyone pair dessert wine with Chinese food? Such as shark fin, it's like drinking Coke or banana milk shake with them...

Shiraz (one of the eight major types of red wine),
QUOTE its typical taste in varietal wine: aromas and flavors of wild black fruit (such as blackcurrant), with overtones of black pepper spice and roasting meat. ---from the WWWThe shiraz variety gives hearty, spicy reds. While shiraz is used to produce many average wines it can produce some of the world’s finest, deepest, and darkest reds with intense flavors and excellent longevity. McLaren Vale is one of Shiraz. |

QUOTE(shinchan99 @ Jan 28 2016, 02:59 PM) Hi all sifus, If you are looking for sweet wine, normally whites are the sweet one. Other than ice wine and moscato, you can also choose sauvignon blanc, riesling. But dont too old. choose the latest vintage. What type of red wines should I choose for sweet taste? I only know white wines like Moscato are sweet. And Icewine are sweet.. Not sure what type of red wine to choose for sweet. Anyone care to share? i am not sure if there is any red that close to sweet palate, but u can try merlot, pinot noir or pinot gris. never had sweet red wine so cant comment more. |

when one look at Sweet wine, one should look at residual sugar.
to be consider sweet wine the residual sugar level is often over 50g/L. 3 puttonyos Hungarian has at least 60g/L Spätlese or late harvest 200g/L ice wine typicall ~400g/L Our Coke has like 110g/L typical wines sauvignon blanc, riesling will not hit over 20g/L This post has been edited by patryn33: Feb 7 2016, 05:46 AM |

The rest of varietal i.e. Merlot, Pinot Noir, blah blah blah... I wouldn't term them as sweet but "not so dry" instead
