Hello Sifu,

Need some advice from Sifu who have build this 2 kit:
1. HG Meteor + Freedom
2. MG Sazabi

My heart want HG Meteor (Seed Fan) but my mind prefer Sazabi. Almost similar cost. huehue.
In your opinion which is better for straight built for display.

Thank you.

Seek sifu advice. Plan to Air Brush Sazabi with Candy Colour Red. My finance minister (aka le wifie) approved my request for Air Brush budget. hehe.

Most guide on internet only mention the step but not mention the colour code if using Mr. Color or Tamiya paint.

Can below paint step achieve it.

All using Mr. Color Thinner
1. Mr Primer Surface 1000
2. Mr Color 2 - Black
3. Mr Color 90 - Shine Silver
4. Mr Color 171 - Fluorescent Red
5. For top coat - Mr Color 46 - Clear

Advice are much appreciated.

Sorry, I dont have extra at the moment smile.gif
All using Mr. Color Thinner - Use leveling thinner.
1. Mr Primer Surface 1000 - Use Black Surfacer.
2. Mr Color 2 - Black - Try use MR Color GX Ueno Black or Gaia Ultimate Black.
3. Mr Color 90 - Shine Silver - This might work  but, I think you can get better shine with Gaia Star Bright silver. But, then you will need Gaia Metallic Thinner.
4. Mr Color 171 - Fluorescent Red - I am not sure why this is required. Maybe Use MR Color clear red instead?
5. For top coat - Mr Color 46 - Clear - Use the Mr Color GX - Super Clear III.

Hope that works. Use on a spoon first to test the recommendation smile.gif

Noted on the info Sir. Exactly the answer I'm looking for. notworthy.gif

Unfortunately, I only have access to Mr. Color or Tamiya paint. They dont sell Gaia paint here. cry.gif

Any equivalent paint coding from Tamiya paint to replace Gaia paint?

Thank you, Sir.

Clear color like red or green is hard to spray.
some part may appear too light & some part may appear too dark. (uneven spraying)
the more color u spray, the darker color u get.
bside, sunlight play an importance role...under the sun, the clear red is very shining, but under room light,
it look dark & dull.

so, make sure after a layer of spray, put it under light to see the effect 1st bfore second or third layer apply. (see the photo above, it taking from HIGH- Light exposure.

Thank you for the reply, Sir. Any input for colour code in term of Tamiya?

Good morning,

My friend plan to visit seoul. Intend to request his help to buy some Tamiya and Mr. Color paint from Gundam Base/Hobby Factory.

Last time, my "check in" lugage was hold by airport security due to lighter inside. (Flammable Liquid). I need to open and lighter was confiscated.

Any experince of putting paint inside check in luggage? Dont want to cause him trouble.

Thank you

I think the Mr Colour shine silver should be close enough to gaia star bright silver. But, there are more expensive MR Color series that might have better shine. From the GX series, MR metal series or the super metallic.

If you want to use Tamiya one, Silver Leaf might be sufficient too.
Where is your location?

I did bought some MR Colour paints and put it inside my checked-in luggage from KK to Penang. Not sure about international or other country restrictions.

There are multiple sources for paints from local seller.

From Penang:
G-Wing Hobby. Carries Gaia, Mr Colour and Tamiya
http://www.gwinghobby.com/
Physical shop in Bukit Gambir and Prangin Mall.
Ask them thru email or phone call, their website is not updated sometime.

Modelland workshop. Carries Gaia, Mr Colour and Tamiya
https://www.facebook.com/Modelland.Workshop/
Physical shop available.

Red Comet. Carries Gaia, Mr Colour, Valejo and games workshops (warhammer series).
https://www.facebook.com/redcometpg/?fref=ts
Physical shop in Prangin Mall.

Wow. Thank you for you kind reply, Sir. notworthy.gif

Currently I am on industrial attachment in Korea.

Noted that "put it inside my checked-in luggage from KK to Penang" no problem.

Also, I will return to Malaysia by end of year. Just worry if I stock up my paint here, later cant bring to Malaysia. sweat.gif . Ask Korea pos, they said they dont accept paint. Only choice check in luggage. rclxub.gif

Currently wife complain, gundam box so big. how to bring back to Malaysia. Need to stop buying. hmm.gif

No, you should buy a lot more. Open them. Then rent a container, you know the large cargo one. Then you ship everything by sea. This way you can also ship your paints and other liquids...
The problem with bringing liquid into the cabin is that there's a chance of it to combust or vaporize in low pressure thus may cause fire. But not when sending them by sea.

Good solution. Now need to get some quotation for Shipping for the Container services. thumbup.gif

Maybe can buy few old release and sell back in Malaysia. brows.gif Gundam Base carry many old model at x1.4 Japan price. bangwall.gif

Tips from sifu are much appreciated. Thank you.

Elaborate on your difficulty?

I have difficulty in distinguishing clear coat thickness, especially on white part. Hardly see any different. Observed paint patches after paint dried due to uneven paint thickness.

Any tips ensuring even paint thickness for clear coat using airbrush. icon_question.gif

Thank you Sifu.

Err... basic painting technique, light coat multiple times? The solvents used in flat/matte paint is different, they are very sensitive to humidity. Paint patches are symptoms of too much paint or painting a layer without drying the previous layer properly.

Re-watching all the tutorial. Observed most guide spray top coat at high pressure and wide distribution. Will try again tomorrow. Thank you, sir.
