Hi guys..
I'm sorry if this question was asked before.
I just bought an Q6600 and of course it already has the thermal pad on it. However, I googled and discovered that the thermal pad provided is not good enough and it is recommended to apply thermal grease.
My questions are:
1. Do I really need to apply the grease or the thermal pad is simple good enough?
2. Can I apply the grease with the pad or must I remove the pad first? (I read somewhere that the pad must be removed before applying the grease, so I just wanna double confirm.)
3. If I need to remove the pad, what can I use? I tried to purchase the ArcticClean from moderno.com but its sold out ><
Thanks!

I've got one more question.
When I was fixing my HSF, I wasn't sure if I had pushed down all the 4 knobs properly. So, I took it off and saw that some part of the thermal pad from my Q6600 was already on the CPU. But I did not clean/remove it and I just fix back my HSF.
Please note that I did it before turning on my comp, which means the thermal pad did not melt yet.
So, will my CPU spoil since I did not remove the thermal pad?
Thanks!

QUOTE(IcEMoCHa @ Jun 11 2008, 01:28 PM) thermal pad or thermal paste?... its okay if u dont reapply thermal paste after removing hsf but the cooling performance will decrease... I think its paste..well..it is pre-applied thermal paste which actually looks like a pad..so I'm not sure lolz! So, it won't damage my CPU? There's a statement on my Motherboard Instrucktion Book, they said " Inadequately removing the HSF from the CPU may damage the CPU" I'm really scared if my Q6600 fly away ToT
