I bought a Arctic Silver 5 yesterday. I applied it but still da same temp with da previous readings.  My processor is P4 3.0 LGA630 with a cooler master HyperL3. Last time ddint put any paste. Using the CM HyperL3 wax itself.
I need 2 wait for the break in period for the real results ??
My temp currently IDLE  = 56C
FULL LOAD with PRIME95 = 63C

I clean the HS and IHS with alcohol. Using the cotton bud.
Why still no different ? ANYBODY ?

If I remember correctly, I read somewhere in the forum that after apply AS5, need to wait for sometime before you can see the reduce of temp... unsure.gif

Hi guys, i've change the cpu to a place that better air flow. And i think the AS5 already sink in cause already one week i've put it.

But the temp reading is still da same. I'm using everest to check da temp.

But some of u guys says everest is not accurate. So i check in the BIOS, the reading come even worst than the everest.
Now only i knew tat the everest is not accurate cause my BIOS reading is 60C when idle. My everest show 56C when idle.  rclxub.gif

So anybody can help me? Put AS5 but still da same.

Now i want to use MBM or coretemp to test again.

Hi, if I remember correctly, I read somewhere in the forum that AS5 need 3 weeks to sink...correct me if I am wrong... unsure.gif

From what I read thru so far from this thread, is it mean the best method to apply the TIM is using the rice method for proc with/without IHS?

hey guyz i just got myself some ceramique and arcticlean so i was wondering how do i clean the old TIM off the chip?say the northbridge or gpu core? unsure.gif can just directly put the arcticlean 1 on the chip?will it damage the card/mobo? laugh.gif
*
Use your credit card/ prepaid card to scrath off the old TIM first, then put a little arctic cleaner on a cloth or tissue then clean the heatsink base and cpu/gpu IHS... laugh.gif

so far gettin 33c idle on both mobo n proc smile.gif but my proc temps are fluctuating alittle..goes up and down by 1 or 2c sweat.gif
*
What TIM you using? AS Ceramic? if yes then wait for it to sink...anyway, 33C idle for your proc...wow...so nice...hope my proc temp can get that low too...today I will change the orientation mounting of my Noctua NH-12F, hopefully the result get better... icon_rolleyes.gif

yeah im using ceramique smile.gif temps can get that low cuz now my system currently no oc sad.gif with my cap ayam psu cant do much about it till my fma returns.

hmm i thought ceramique doesnt need sink in time and AS5 needs to wait? unsure.gif
*
AS Ceramic also need sink in time...as stated in the manual. My Pentium D without oc already get 48C (lowest) while idle... biggrin.gif

oO okay...wah longer then AS5's 200hour? laugh.gif now im not even sure whether i applied correctly whistling.gif
*
Refer to the manual lor...the best way will still be the grain rice method...let the HSF to spread it evenly... thumbup.gif

Just re-install my Noctua NH-12F into 180 degree, now have better air flow and the idle is around 44-47C...still waiting for AS5 to sink...hope the temp can drop to at least 38C or lower... drool.gif

yeah i did that..used the hsf to spread it ceramique out laugh.gif but still kinda worried if its evenly spreaded out.cuz my hsf's base not very smooth and its my first time  laugh.gif
*
You will know it when the next time you take out your HSF to clean... laugh.gif

If you use HSF to spread it, suppose to be spread evenly...unless your HSF can't give enough presure to it which I don't think will be the case... icon_rolleyes.gif

oh boy.im not too sure myself.cuz idle temps are like 37c and full load 45c with ceramique.but these are all on stock/no oc  sweat.gif what do you think?

with my old generic TIM i got 34c idle and 45c full load. unsure.gif
*
Wait for it to fully sink in then see whether the temp will drop or not...if you not crash or auto-reboot, then should be ok lor... from the temp you given, I think if OC also will not get to too high... biggrin.gif

i was thinking that could be the cause too sweat.gif hmm maybe i should reapply tonight unsure.gif
its been sinked in for about 60hrs+ already since i applied it..temps now idle 36c  sad.gif i think i dint apply correctly lah.cant be ceramique is worse then the generic silicon tim
edit: do you think i should reapply it or wait till like 100hours? unsure.gif
*
You got 1C drop from the first day install till now right as you got 37C idle before, now is 36C? Maybe you should wait... or if you like, you can reapply it...like that you can know whether you apply it right or not, so you will know how much should be apply next time...

I also wonder mine as I still get 44C at idle from that day till now...dun know is it not enough pressure... hmm.gif anyway I will re-install my NH-12F after I get my new CM Centurion 530 from Moderno soon (will buy after get salary drool.gif )... rclxm9.gif

Wao rich man spotted!!  Got Noctua CPU and Chipset cooler, now go for a decent case haa. Complete cooling set for ya rig. Nice nice !!
*
haha...not rich man lar... just spend most of my salary to upgrade my rig as I not upgrade my rig for several year liao...after upgrade those thing, I think I gonna stop for maybe 1 or 2 years before upgrade again... laugh.gif

hope I can be rich like Uncle ianho... drool.gif

Edited to add: with my current casing, the space is very limited after install the NH-12F, so the air flow become bad... doh.gif as I read from forum here, found that the Centurion 530 air flow not bad, so I decide to get it lor as it is nice and the price is reasonable...I can't get those high end casing like Lian Li, Antec and Silverstone as the price is too high for me... sweat.gif

QUOTE(kingsthii @ Feb 3 2007, 12:36 PM)
er.. can i ask, if i have Amd M2 3800+ processor with big typn vx, which kind of thermal paste i should apply for best cooling?? I see you all wrote so many about risk applying it.

If i use artic silver 5 or Zm-STG1,  which one can apply to VGA (Nvdia 256mb DDR3 9600GS) and Chipset (MSI K9N utlra). Scare break the VGA and Chipset on board.
I just dnt know which one is good btw As5 and ZM-STG1?

So ZM-STG1 also will sink just like As5?
Can anyone give me an opinion?
*
Are you sure 9600GS, or you mean 7600GS?

AS5 apply to GC and NB chipset no problem lar...just you need to put very little of it, a little dot enough...then use the Heatsink to spread it... if you really scare, then use AS Ceramic lor... icon_idea.gif

from the review done by forumer here, the Zalman STG-1 not so impresive lor, still the AS5 better... biggrin.gif
