Does every TIM need time to sinked in like the AS5 or some will straight perform when applied?

Would it be dangerous to the PC(overheating) if we use some kind of cheapo TIM or doesnt even use TIM at all?

Actually, does good TIM like AS5, when applied to stock cooling, would be able to help reduce temperature better than normal cheapo TIM or the difference is minimal?I was planning to applied some to my current stock Galaxy 7300GT cooler in hope that it will be able to reduce the temperature.Current temperature is 54c.

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Jan 2 2007, 01:00 PM) yes...but gc tim usually is good stuffs di coz gc temps are much much higher than procs.... So, is it advisable to change the TIM of the GC to AS5?Or maybe just leave it as what it is now?

QUOTE(E-J@1 @ Jan 3 2007, 12:11 PM) how long u been using the gc, if still new better leave it for now, when all dust accumulate on the gc heatsink, u can apply the AS5 after u take it off for cleaning Well, around 6months maybe? Its about the launching time of 7300GT.Got the first batch from Galaxy that comes with the stock cooler...I was thinking of cooling it down abit more (currently at 53c idle) and was hoping that the AS5 could do the job at the moment until i change a better VGA cooler...

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Jan 3 2007, 05:25 PM) wah change loh.... so long di... lol..then this means, how long should it be for me to change the TIM or clean the GC fan?Something funny happened though.I OCed my GC in the past 2 days and the temperature dropped from 53c to 49c without me changing any TIM or cooler..lol..

QUOTE(pengster @ Jan 3 2007, 09:26 PM) wait.correct me if im wrong but i thought using AS5 for gpu core isint recommended?cuz the core doesnt have an IHS and AS5 is like metallic and may short circuit the whole card if the as5 touches other than the core? Really? O..then i should cancel off my plan though..But sniper69 said in the 7series thread that he had replace the stock TIM with AS5 and it doesnt seem to have any problem yet... QUOTE(irangan @ Jan 4 2007, 11:23 AM) you are correct in some sense BUT if you applies the as5 carefully, your card will be fine. remember to use the a drop of grain method when applying the as5. Be careful in the sense of how?Not spilling the AS5 to other parts?I really wanted to apply the AS5 to my GC but i am kinda worried it will spoil my GC...

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Jan 5 2007, 05:10 PM) well tehmal tape is hard to come buy in mly. but if u do do remember to help out ur brothers in lyn and do a bulk. neway in singapore, walk into a 3m shop and u will be amazed at what types of themal tape u can get. load of types. and materails. i saw one silver based for themal transefer efficientcy... Yea, i am trying very hard to find this as well.Best if i could get the 3M one but if i cant find it, any brand will do as well...Not even LYP had this though.. QUOTE(wsmin @ Jan 6 2007, 01:51 AM) here is a review of chill factor, looks like it is a bit better than as5 http://www.dragonsteelmods.com/index.php?o...=1&limitstart=2Good review for the Chill Factor though..But last time out, the Zalman also have quite a good review as well but it end up disappointing though..I will wait until someone here test it.Maybe we could as pcmodding to test it as well.lol... Just recently changed my thermal paste to the AS5.Waiting for it to sinked in for 200 hours.Current temperature is rated at 33c on idle. Will test full load later...

Well, i dont think we will need to do full load of 200hours.That seems really going to stress the proc alot..lol..Anyway, hopefully the AS5 is going to lower my proc temperature to below 30c.When i applied, it was about 33c.Now, after about 1 full day of applying, its running at 35c on idle...

QUOTE(pengster @ Jan 7 2007, 05:55 PM) i just took out my faulty msi mobo's northbridge heatsink in attempt to lap it but found out that there's a square pad and the thermal grease in the middle.could that be a thermal pad? and another thing,on those chips that has thermal grease on it how do i clean it up?is it safe to use alcohol? Its the thermal tape used to stick the heatsink to the nb..You could use those Arctic Cleaner to wipe off the thermal grease or else, proven by other people, you can use those minyak angin... Anyway, does anyone knows the link to any particular site that can show the 3M thermal tape?I need the product name and hopefully will be able to search it out. Many people that i have asked seems blur with what i mean by 3M thermal tape...I have tried searching 3M official site and doesnt really know which one is the one i need.

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Jan 8 2007, 04:50 PM) c...told u guys its worth it, and can use many many times... did u get a nice mentos smelling, like fruitish smell from the tim remover or the surface purifier? lol..Yea i did.It has something like a lime/lemon smell for me.Its at the remover. The purifier doesnt have any smell..The cleaners can easily remove those old TIM from my proc.No more hassle next time i guess and i do feel it can last a long time...

QUOTE(pengster @ Jan 8 2007, 09:12 PM) articlean expensive lah..rm25 compared to the swan alcohol rm3 btw the alcohol wont short circuit the board rite if it touches the pcb? that's the main part im afraid off Well, its ok considering that RM25 can last you quite a while. And i do not feel wana take the risk in using other type of alcohol that potential can damage my proc...So, i would say,RM25 is well spent here...
