QUOTE(lolhalol @ Dec 11 2006, 01:36 PM) @akachester to answer ur question is really hard as it is down to user preference and usage. (this is what i think is correct) As5 is for usage of high end coolers and water blocks that u are not likely to be removing day in day out as as5 needs time to cure. so u will never get the performance of its full potential... ceramique is usually used for EXTREME cooling wher u go below the -20 degrees mark. as5 cant be used because it will freeze up and turn into a solid. as for the cleaner, i have one set, arctic clean and surface purifiers( usually u are recommended to buy both) so far i have only seen a drop of 1degrees when using these cleaners , but it up to u to whether u wan to buy it or not, but they are useful ... Thanks for all the info there.I myself uses the Zalman Fatal1ty FS-C77 CPU cooler and seldom take it out unless for cleaning purposes (which might be a very long time). So, maybe i will be getting the AS5 instead of the Zalman which didnt really perform what i had expected. I am starting to wonder whether that Zalman thermal paste is exactly the same as those small ones provided from purchase of their coolers..lol.. QUOTE(irangan @ Dec 11 2006, 04:43 PM) you can see it this way, clean (Bottle 1 with white cap) and polish (Bottle 2 with blue cap) your cpu or gpu. remove your old TIM and polish it before applying a new layer of TIM. IIRC, it will enhance the performance of your cooler because not properly cleaned cpu or gpu (with dust or oil on it) will increase the temp. Well, will it affect the temperature by much?It doesnt really seem very expensive though.Around 20++ for both bottle.Might be getting myself one as well together with the AS5..Anyway, any rough idea when the AS6 will be available?or it might be a distant future away?

QUOTE(Doom @ Dec 12 2006, 12:26 AM) Truly agree on it .. high end cooler must equipped with decent thermal paste like AS5 ... else it is totally meaningless. more over the result is guarantee when using AS5 unless applied wrongly. What do you mean by applying wrongly? How could that happen? Is there any specific way to apply the AS5 as i never really bought any good TIM before... QUOTE(pcmoddingmy @ Dec 12 2006, 02:02 AM) Talking about cleaning heatsinks, guess what I use to clean heatsink base and CPU IHS... I use minyak kapak..... Yes, minyak kapak (Axe Branded Medicated Oil). Just put one or two drops onto a tissue paper and wipe it over the heatsink base or CPU IHS top. It cleans pretty well but leaves a little oil on the surface. So, grab another clean tissue and wipe away the oil. Go give it a try and restore that shine back to your heatsink/CPU! Minyak kapak good for nose blocks, headaches, etc and now cleaning heatsinks too! No kidding~ lol..I really learn something new now.Dont care bout that RM25, just done the job in maybe RM5..lol..And that for sure, will last u quite some time.lol..

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Dec 14 2006, 05:35 PM) Well, i dont think moderno have AS5 in hand... Anyway, it really seems except AS5, there isnt any other trusted and good performance thermal paste around eh...How bout the CM Nano?

Well, my friend do have the nano.Maybe i could borrow it and try it myself.Wasnt really interested in the Nano in the first place.Just too bad the choices are somewhat limited. The Zalman gave me such false hope..Now left was the AS5 though..

Would applying TIM that is too thick will cause heat problem that should be there?

lol..then its going to be a hard job. Then would having TIM that is too thin will cause heat dissapation problem as well?I only knew applying TIM would need special skill as well..lol..I use to just put like one or two drop and stick the HSF right onto it...The easy/lazy way...

QUOTE(irangan @ Dec 16 2006, 12:15 PM) how to determine whether it is too thin or too thick? normally i just apply TIM as thin as possible but not until can see the surface of the processor. i dont think that is called lazy/easy way. it is the recommended way by AS5 website. hehe... but i put some TIM on the processor and used my credit card to make it evenly on the processor and cotton bud to remove excess TIM on the side of the processor. Well, that is because when i got myself the fatal1ty cpu cooler, Zalman did give it together with a manual on how to use the TIM.The way they give was kinda type of lazy way where you squeeze the TIM out a lil bit and flatten it with a kinda of cardboard provided.Something that looks like a normal credit card but thinner.Thats been the way i had been doing until now though..lol..

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Dec 18 2006, 09:39 PM) man the credit card way is a huge common misconcepttion.... if u use ur credit card u introduce trace amounts of imourities that will cause a decrease in performance... best if use the rice or string method as i posted earlier.... lots of guilow is refering to the days when the cores of cpu was very big... maybe the oldschool procs.... Will definitely try this out when i got my hands on the AS5 soon..Hopefully it will be better than my stock Zalman paste that comes with my Zalman HSF..

QUOTE(irangan @ Dec 19 2006, 04:24 PM) you can get a better result that is for sure.. since its high performance paste, STG1 also lost to AS5 lol..thats why i doubt myself in calling the STG1 the "high performance" thermal paste..Well, hopefully i can test it out when it arrives..Maybe will take sometime though..

I already did but too bad i cant test it on my system yet.I should only be able to do that after Xmas.I really did think of getting the STG1 myself and test it on my system as well. But considering the price tag, and comments made, it seems like a waste. The only doubt i have was would the STG1 works better with a Zalman HSF...

Yes, i would love to get the TR Chill Factor..Not sure where it can be found yet and havent read any recommendation of it yet.Would love to hear some comment first before getting it as i do not want to be dissapointed like the STG1...

Yea, would really love to see how good the TR is.Actually how many performance TIM is there in the market? As i know, there is only a few in AS5, STG1, CM Nano, and the Evercool Sidewinder. How good is the sidewinder anyway?

I would like to know, how long can we keep a TIM?When we applied to a system, how long does it take for us to replace it again or we just leave it there? And if we uses the TIM, is there any expiry date on the balance in the syringe?Cause i wanted to get a few different brands, mainly AS5 and the TR Chill Factor but i am worried that it would be a waste if there is something like an expiry date around..

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Dec 22 2006, 05:21 PM) i dun think it can expire, bu i would recomend u change ur tim everytime u start seeing abnormal temps.... lol..for me personally, i also seldom check my temperature. But for people who doesnt really check, is there any timeline for changing the TIM?like every 3months?If there is no expiry date, then maybe i will get the TR as well..

QUOTE(lolhalol @ Dec 22 2006, 05:32 PM) well i change every weel , but thats me, but best is bout everytime u clean ur rig for sdust , lets say 1.5 months? Ok..cool.Thanks for the info.Maybe i could research more about this first.Anyway, is thermal tape available for sale anywhere? Those that are used to stick certain northbridge cooler without any pins or screws...My original Gigabyte mobo nb cooler was sticked using thermal tape.Would thermal tape be better than TIM if used? Something bad happened when i took off my northbridge cooler yesterday. The stock Zalman paste that come with my nb cooler which was only applied for maybe 1 month+ had hardened and stick to the nb.Clean it off using TIM remover. The one thing i was not sure is that is it usual for TIM to hardened so quickly (in around 1month) or the Zalman paste is really that cheapo?

QUOTE(irangan @ Dec 26 2006, 02:47 PM) Rock hard? or just dried up abit? TIM dont really harden, it meant to be stay in liquid form. Its not rock hard but it cant be removed from the nb even by wiping it out.As well as the bottom of the nb cooler..Needed to use alchohol to remove it and its way hard..Not sure what happened though..luckily i bought the AS5 as a replacement...
