I'm an iPhone user previously, note 5 is my first android phone since 6 years loyal to Apple.

I've never use my note 5 home button, not even once! And i don't even use any assistive touch app, all i'm using is just the back and apps soft touch keys.

First time know about this "Home button phobia". Just kidding.

Just use the app knockr for this ...it works very well n is a free app.I only chose double tap to wake n it had a long list of other options too

Nope, the digital button which can be used as a back button, home button and some other function, its blue in color with 4 small white box inside, almost the same function as apple digital home button.

go to settings -> accessibility -> dexterity and interaction -> assistant menu -> off

I tried google keyboard. I reverted back to samsung. Cant rmb why.
Same. Sometimes when i unlock my phone, it doesnt respond. No nutton works. Then it kinda takes 30-40 seconds to get itself together before functioning like normal again

I've used cheap ones RM10+ from Taobao for various phones, no problems, last long and no crack / effect / unresponsive.  Just that the oleophobic coating ain't that great.

But now can't wait for delivery, so thinking of where to get similar cheap ones.
