For Oil counters determined which part of the chain they are in. You need to know in details how these company derived their profit and their revenue stream.

For example, let us use Velesto. They are considered upstream, so meaning they derived most of their revenue from exploration / productions.

So based on today scenario, even if oil price increase it is mainly due to cut in production rather than an exponential increase in demand. So meaning they won't be the prime beneficiary of the increase in oil price as most new exploration or operation maintenance will not be in high gears.

In near terms i would say an increase in oil price will be more favorable towards oil traders, oil producers and storage facilities rather than the upstream supporting players.

This is my analysis based on fundamental, however if you want to trade near term you may try your luck as i believe many speculators will spin a story based on increase in oil price and how it would benefit the O&G sector. The market will most likely buy the stock on the back of a good story that is relatable for them.

However its good to understand a company before you go in, so you can determined whether you are investing into a company or trading its price movement.
