QUOTE(zstan @ Mar 8 2021, 06:45 PM)
of course at the wisdom of our BNM. unless they wanna pull off another Zeti.  and also require GST to be reinstated.
*
GST reinstated with high rate will deter spending, similar to what's going in Japan now. their consumption rate never helped their economy any how.
Deflationary since ancient time.

QUOTE(Cubalagi @ Mar 8 2021, 06:46 PM)
It will depend on the reason for the increase in interest rate, can be good and bad.

Right now BNM OPR rate is still lowest ever.

Personally, I have been positioned for this interest rate move since end of last year. So, it is good for my portfolio which is overweight banks and OnG.

Long term interest going up, bond price down, banks up, gold down.. To me, the market is saying a strong economic rebound is incoming, which will then drive inflation.

But I also think market is overreacting. Hard for me to see sustained inflation coming.

Stay diversified...

QUOTE(skty @ Mar 8 2021, 02:19 PM)
Actually I don’t recommend to play short term.

If one can’t do well in long term, better not play short term. Unless you just gamble or try luck, to be consistently making profit in short term is much harder than long term.

Learn to be good in long term first then can venture into short term for extra nasi lemak. The big profit will come in the long term investment, not short term trading.

My 2 cent.

Missed out on this earlier. Ya, not gonna touch these, was asking for understanding, which you can tell I'm far off it smile.gif

Your two cents are always worth a ton!

Hi, would just like to gather some views from fellow investors here. For those who hold bluechip stocks, how do you decide when to take profit from your capital gains? I'm currently sitting on stocks with ~50% profit thanks to averaging down over the last year or so. Dividends are good, but I'm starting to think that if I don't sell, all those capital gains will stay on paper.

When the company story changes. When you need the money. When there are better alternatives available.
It's bluechip for a reason. Sure, you can bank the gains now but what are you going to do with that money? If you don't have better alternatives without increasing your exposure, that's reason enough to let it run.

Hardest to do. When it goes up, never be greedy. Drop the weight, and take profit.

I learn my lesson for last year. On paper gain, I locked in 300 %, today I looked at it again, it is -30%. But the revenue + PAT still coming in BIG this time...

The big swing, from good reward to a loss. All thanks to higher high and ambition until you become BEEEP! and look down. All is the floor. for you to fall.

50%, 55% 60% up and up. it goes.

Alternative for me would be ASB.

Hmm, this is one of my main concerns. I have no immediate need for the funds, but if it goes back down before I need to cash out it'll be damn sad la haha.

Good news, was targeting to buy digi rm3.5 or below. With this news up a bit, so I will wait and see. Even if talks restarted, trying to find an agreeable evaluation not easy. Last round failed. It seems to be celcom needs digi more than digi needs celcom, finding the money to entice Telenor is another proposition altogether. Hope digi drops more, but now looks unlikely unless whole market downtrend. Digi will be better with Telenor support (tech transfer). Celcom based on its track record including the Nepal acquisition, let's just say I prefer digi with Telenor.

some days it will hover around 50,40,30% gain

and u might think "aiya already got 50, sell lah 40. this stock is on sideway"

then suddenly jump to 60% gain

if u really feeling like selling, just sell it partially.

u can always reenter it next time.
