I don't trade but have learnt one rule in regards to it.

Average down only applies to fundamental investors.
If you are trading, NEVER average down. Just CL.

Some instances you may win, but in the long run it is always a losing exercise caused by base emotion.
*
'Fundamental investors' always, always try use the value excuse when they average down. It's never the fact they had made the mistake, either choosing the wrong stock, buying the stock at far too optimistic valuations. Yes, they will buy more. And more. And end result is always the same. They lose.

Like they buy Harta now. Simply because they believe it so oversold, blah blah blah... And when the idea fails, they fast hand, fast leg claim they are fundamental investor etc etc etc.

Investing and trading the same la. Don't do it. Don't average down. Don't even call it DCA.

I'm doing pretty good just sitting under the coconut tree.
Feels nice to leave things on autopilot every once in a while.

Anything new for you this year?
*
That's not a good place to be squatting. Them coconuts can fall............................... laugh.gif

not expecting much this year but as usual, I am always, always on the lookout...

Typsy ada?

At least this year no more Cukai Makmur for companies earning more than RM100m. Maybe can look for dividend paying blue chips.

* unless reinstated by PH govt as final budget hasnt beem tabled yet.
*
Where got? Coconut tipsy can't make me tipsy no more.

See la. If got to think too hard about it, best let the money rot in money hell la. laugh.gif

That's a good analogy. A reminder to me that even when things are comfy, there's always falling coconuts to watch out for.

This year, looking for that mini bull somewhere in the sea of bears.
Updating portfolios, doing reviews but not really making any transactions. Just sitting and looking.
Your posts are like the typical i3 ones.
*
Good analogy? laugh.gif

I was just trying to write some fancy pants words explaining I still got no tipsy to give. Hehe.

Notion vtec boleh pakai ?
*
That's pretty much subjective, yes?

From an investor pov, this stock had been pretty much shit since its listing. Fire and flood incidents were once too many. The changing of business objective, venturing into all sorts of business were really rclxub.gif

Camera business with Nikon, hard drives, PPE equipment (during Covid for eg face masks), EMS Space and AI....

Crazy eh?

Well from a punting/betting/gambling/trading pov... well, this stock can really go up (but then it also can really come crashing down too)

So boleh pakai or not, really depends, no?

Like AirAsia. How many dislike the company for its terrible attitude to its customers? And the terrible state of its financials. Can it survive or not? But yet... the stock is having a nice run, yes?

Or like Cypark. Yup, many would not touch the stock. Business not the best. Company name? Very, very the terrible. But yet, due to the placement issue to the J boys, the stock had been booming the past few days. Them J boys are getting into the hang of the stock market, yes? But then also, some would point out what happened to Sedania and used that as strong caution when betting on it.

Yeah... some would always say Bursa tak boleh pakai... but then.. the last couple of years... the heavy, heavy tech correction has sent them into deep shock. wink.gif

Big cat small cat black cat white cat

Successful catch mouse is the panai cat

Of course... but this is where it gets risky since both cats always think that they WILL be the successful one.

There are always many successful black cats and just as the many successful white cats.... but there also many, many cats who lost their lives thinking they are the ONES who will be successful, ignoring the pitfalls and perils of their hunting ways.

Short to say, making money in stocks isn't difficult. Losing money in stocks is much easier.

Turkeys Of The Year: Serba Dinamik leaves behind a dangerous precedent
The Edge Malaysia

January 10, 2023 14:30 pm +08

IN late 2019, Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd’s stock price was at its peak at above the RM4.20 band, buoyed by announcements of exciting, gargantuan ventures into the Middle East. A special-purpose acquisition company it was sponsoring — Data Knights Acquisition Corp — was listed on Nasdaq. To cut a long story short, it was on top of the world....

QUOTE(statikinetic @ Feb 7 2023, 08:47 PM)
I usually gauge companies instead of sectors.
In analysing those companies, I then have to create a view of the sector but it is usually through the lens of a specific company. So I can't really say which sector itself is undervalued as there usually isn't anything direct to compare it against to say it is over/under. For companies I can usually reference similar companies and their valuations as a comparison to determine if something is over/under.

Sometimes my search brings me to what I term cold companies. Meaning very thin trading volume as I don't think the general public are very aware of such companies. But their fundamentals look solid and their revenue consistent. To use an old example, MASTER was one such company which was trading relatively thin last year so the bet was a dark horse type. Price today makes me very happy as an investor though I must say most of my investments are mostly of a more modest profit.

Here's hoping Po Huat keeps doing well and then wait for people to catch on.
My gut told me to jump in at 0.65 as I was really confident there was money to be made.
Only my self rule to never buy companies not on my watchlist stopped me as most of my losses were when I broke my own rule. I had a portfolio on MyEG but stopped updating it in 2021 when I sold all of it and stopped tracking it as a company I'll be interested in.

Had to tell myself this money is not mine to make. Congrats to those who rolled the dice.

Wow! Finally another decent posting! biggrin.gif

but yeah... poh huat is a great idea. Certainly much, much better than S******. tongue.gif

Still stand by what I said. Its property sector keeps on delivering much more profits than its plastics. As such, such plays are never too sexy, unless the company makes plan to reorganise.

MyEg? LOL!! Two words. No like.

1. Gloves IS a sunset industry. If not for covid, it's earnings would not have exploded. Hence, betting long term is betting on another global pandemic as severe as Covid. Will it happen? Your bet, your call.

2. Waiting for profit isn't a bad idea. Since you are waiting to gauge its profitability level in a BRAND new economic environment, where the industry has to digest fully the insane expansion of glove supply.

In an environment where supply far exceeds demand, the outlook ain't gonna bright unless a brand new GLOBAL pandemic happens again. ( for the record, after SARS, the industry took more than 9 years to recover!)
