A friend of friend to my wife is doing PhD in geomatics engineering doing mapping about wind. Amazing right? Typically geomatics engineering is all about land terrain or sea water mapping.

I think Malaysia wind got potential during monsoon? Its all about getting the right money from the right investor.

to come out with the data like this, it is very useful. biggrin.gif
at least for me, to complete my thesis few years ago...

Did FPSO Kikeh, FSU Lekas, FPSO Cendor and MAMPU 1 conversion. Never had i saw even 1 Alam graduate in the PMT. No joke. Mostly are university graduates with prior overseas stints in korean or japanese shipyards doing newbuilding.
*
ALAM grads still working onboard//sailing.

Some of my uni mates (local uni) doing shipbuilding and repairs --as an owner rep, class, and also shipyard...remember my friends (misc scholars) need to go to ALAM for training and join the ship for their internship. Now he joins the PMT doing new building and conversion

Fresh SPM. Sini apply. Senang nak masuk O&G marine related project in the future especially for floater conversion project or even on O&M prospect at FSO/FPSO etc

I used to attend the interview at 2001 and I failed very bad hahahaha
*
My opinion is if you are selected, work hard, take all the tickets until you got Master//Captain or Chief Engineer COC.
Then if you think to work onshore or jump ship, go for at least Marine Superintendent, Technical Superintendents or maybe can join Class (ABS, LR etc) as a ship/marine surveyor.

Mahal. They know that there are tons of Jackup being stacked in Labuan. Sapa murah dia dapat 🤗🤗🤗🤗

That's very true sir! Another tons in Johor, Singapore and also Batam. Just say you want to survey/visit the rig, surely they make it happen.

yap. despite the price hovering steady at 40, drilling outlook is still grim. had a chat with a fellow colleague form another service company that his dept have just enough field hand for the 2 rigs they are covering and once those close shop, the remaining crews all will be MSSed.
*
That two rigs are Perisai 101 & UMW Naga 8?

I wonder if those whom had moved out will return to this industry once it picks up?

I believed it's all depends on how they been laid off and how desperate are they.

QUOTE(azraeil @ Mar 16 2016, 09:59 PM)
What do you mean what is the standard rate per barrel? Average crude price? For the 5 years before the crash of 2014, it was averaging close to 90-100 dollars per barrel. 2015, it averages 52 dollars per barrel (almost a 50% decline) and for 2016, most companies are calling for 35 dollars per barrel at most.

A lot of companies are now using conservative numbers in the project planning. Petronas uses 30 bucks at most for 2016 and beyond (that's the key word here ... And beyond). It took them ages to incrementally use a higher oil price for their project planning after the 1998 crash, and after the 2014 crash, the 30 dollar per barrel numbers will stay there for at least 3-4 years. So if you are doing any project in Malaysia, expect Petronas to push hard on cost. It doesn't matter what the actual crude price is at the time the project is sanctioned, Petronas will use 30 dollars and the cost associated with the projects are expected to use the same 30 dollars number as well. Any rigs with 90k DCRs can kiss the project goodbye. Not going to happen and not going to pass commercial stage.
*
I remember Petronas Head of Drilling told us in the DWOP Session a few months back that right now even the meeting room also he has to beg for discounts...So expect the same for other big things..

I wonder whats the Dayrate for N1 right now. I guess NOC pad zero rate while the rigs (N1 and others) on the "suspension" mode, right? That way, NOC will not has to paid penalty for early termination and drilling contractors still have the contract on their books.

Kalau murah, sure jalan punya. Sekarang ni if you don't give good DCR, tak yah masuk bid. Perabis beras jer.

I believe most of the drilling contractors willing to lower the price, but i wonder if there is still a pushing factor from the top to use Malaysian Flagged Rigs even though the offered rate above the expectation, say more than 90k? I'm talking about the operations in Malaysia Water.

Like below, in Indonesia currently they are very particular and priority will be given to the local flagged rigs..the result of the cabotage law that now includes the drilling rig.

Weatherford eyes 3000 more layoffs

Layoffs: Weatherford CEO Bernard Duroc-Danner says more layoffs are on tap

Weatherford could lay off another 3000 people in the second half of the year on top of a planned layoff of around 6500 staff that has already been announced by the services giant, which has been among the most aggressive in cutting employees during the downturn.

now, this is really tough deal. As per our agent, re-flagging process isn't hard but the purchase and ownership of the rig will be quite tricky...
