Hi all, my first time overclocking so still noob. got a little help but i cant seem to get past 2.8GHz. Here's my current computer rig:

E6300
asus p5b e-plus
a-data 2x 1gb 800mhz ddr2 ram
msi nx8800gtx
creative xtrememusic

my current stable settings are:

Ai Tuning: Manual
CPU Frequency: 399
Ram Frequency: DDR2-798
PCI-e Frequency: 100
PCI Frequency: 33.33
Spread Spectrum: Disabled
Memory Voltage: 2.3
CPU Vcore: 1.3
FSB Termination voltage: 1.4
NB Vcore: 1.45
SB Vcore: 1.6
ICH Voltage: Auto

CPU settings;
Modify Ratio Support: Enabled
Ratio CMOS Setting: 7x
C1E Support: Disabled
Max CPUID Value Limit: Disabled
Vanderpool Technology: Disabled
CPU TM Function: Enabled
Execute Disable Bit: Enabled
PECI: Disabled

NB Settings:
Memory Remap Feature: Disabled
Configure DRAM by SPD: Disabled
Ram Timings: 5-5-5-15-5-42-13-13-13-13
Static Read Control: Disabled

The problem I have is, when i up the CPU Freq to 400MHz, the whole system cannot boot. I tried upping the NB voltage, CPU Vcore voltage, still cannot boot. I make the ram timings 6-6-6-18-6-42-15-15-15-15, still cannot. Change the multiplier to 6x, still cannot.
These are some settings that i have already tried:

At 7x multiplier:

1)
CPU: 420
RAM: 840
Mem V: 2.3V
CPU V: 1.5V
FSB Termination: 1.4V
NV Vcore: 1.65V
SB Vcore: 1.6V
ICH V: Auto

Cannot boot

2)
CPU: 400
RAM: 800
Mem V: 2.3V
CPU V: 1.5V
FSB Termination: 1.4V
NV Vcore: 1.65V
SB Vcore: 1.6V
ICH V: Auto

Cannot boot

3)
CPU: 400
RAM: 800
Mem V: 2.3V
CPU V: 1.4V
FSB Termination: 1.4V
NV Vcore: 1.65V
SB Vcore: 1.6V
ICH V: Auto

Manage to boot once, computer hang after POST messages. Restart the com, monitor got signal but only an underscore blinking at top left hand corner.. What does this mean?

4)
CPU: 400
RAM: 800
Mem V: 2.3V
CPU V: 1.4V
FSB Termination: 1.40V
NV Vcore: 1.55V
SB Vcore: 1.6V
ICH V: Auto

Cannot boot

5)
CPU: 400
RAM: 800
Mem V: 2.3V
CPU V: 1.45V
FSB Termination: 1.4V
NV Vcore: 1.65V
SB Vcore: 1.6V
ICH V: Auto

Cannot boot

6)
CPU: 400
RAM: 800
Mem V: 2.3V
CPU V: 1.45V
FSB Termination: 1.4V
NV Vcore: 1.55V
SB Vcore: 1.6V
ICH V: Auto

Cannot boot

7)
CPU freq:400
ram freq: 800
cpuV: 1.4V
memV: 2.3V
NBV: 1.55V & 1.65
SBV: 1.6V

Ram timings: 6-6-6-18-6-42-15-15-15-15

8)
CPU freq:400
ram freq: 800
cpuV: 1.425V
memV: 2.3V
NBV: 1.65
SBV: 1.6V

Ram timings: 6-6-6-18-6-42-15-15-15-15

9)
CPU Freq: 400
Mem Freq: 800
MemV: 2.3
CPU V: 1.4
FSB termination: 1.45
NB Vcore: 1.65
SB Vcore: 1.60

Ram timings: 5-5-5-15-5-42-13-13-13-13

still can't boot

At 6x multiplier:
settings:
CPU Freq: 400
Mem Freq: 800
MemV: 2.3
CPU V: 1.4
FSB termination: 1.45
NB Vcore: 1.65
SB Vcore: 1.60

Ram timings: 5-5-5-15-5-42-13-13-13-13

Can't boot.

then tried

CPU Freq: 400
Mem Freq: 800
MemV: 2.3
CPU V: 1.4
FSB termination: 1.45
NB Vcore: 1.65
SB Vcore: 1.60

Ram timings: 6-6-6-18-6-42-13-13-13-13

still can't.

then tried

CPU Freq: 400
Mem Freq: 800
MemV: 2.3
CPU V: 1.4
FSB termination: 1.45
NB Vcore: 1.65
SB Vcore: 1.60

Ram timings: 6-6-6-18-6-42-15-15-15-15

com become siao liao, the system speaker keep giving off beep beep beep beep beep beep sound

Can't manage to get the system past 2.8Ghz. Any advice or suggestions?

Your thread will be close soon after Mod read it..
Okay can try this.

-400FSb x 7 multiplier.
-RAM multiplier set 2x
-PCi-E set 100
-vCore set 1.325v
-vMcH and vFsb default.

Why closed? I'm posting here because i've exhausted every possible solution i can think of.. Really tweak all the settings still unstable.. But if this thread really not allowed here then my apologies.

Anyway,
I heard ram: cpu 1:1 more stable. the other settings u mentioned, i tried before, doesn't work.

I also dunno why.. buy MOD closed many 'help me o'c' threads.
Yes its true. 1:1 is more stable. exspecially at higher fsb.
Actually wht u have tried is just the way to o'c... shouldent have any prob for E6300 to hit 400 FSB. But i also saw few forumers in overclock united cant reach 400Fsb too. (using DS3 or DS4)
Maybe u should try lower Fsb, let say start from 380Fsb. See how far u can go.

i thought this thread was here this morning? got deleted?

i allow this thread... at least the thread starter provide very details on his problem.

not like some people with typical "help me oc" line with no info provided

U see, the problem is, at 399MHz, its perfectly stable! and once i increase by just 1mhz to 400Mhz, it can't boot at all. Puzzling me a lot.. I try tweak some more..

heh heh heh... DS4 & DS3 rox... icon_rolleyes.gif but then P5B series Asus boards are very famous also rite...? hmm.gif

how bout voltage...? I not familiar wif Asus AI OC but usually after updating Bios it's best to set auto for voltage control...

ICH i set to auto. tried the settings coolice gave, doesn't work. bios version latest, 0304. whats the use of max ICH voltage? i thought cpu o/cing is mainly related to NB Voltage

I think my RAM sticks holding me back.. these A-data 6400's seem like they have shitty o/cability. set to 6-6-6-18-6-42-15-15-15-15 then can o/c to 420fsb, but can't go higher than 430 without system being damn unstable

erm. Wht i mean is, even if we have good mobo like DS3/DS4. But if proc itself bottleneck the o'c then nothing more we can do. Like TS using Asus P5B e Plus.

Try using more than 400 FSB. Say 410-420. The reason why it can't boot/unstable is due to the bootstrap issue. Try to look for the bootstrap article OCZ or xtreme system forums.

Btw, do you really need to increase the vdimm all the way to 2.3 V !!! The most i dare to go is 2.2V. AFAIK, some rams allow an increase of voltage as long it's in the 1.8V-2.1V range. So just to be safe smile.gif

i dont think the ram will stable at cl6 timings.. i have the a-data ddr2-800 512mbx2 (pink heatspreader rite??) and manage to get DDR2-1000 at 2.1v at cl5 but cannot boot at cl6..

have you burn-in your proc??.. that might help.. i dont know why but i always burn-in my every new proc at stock speed before attemp any oc test..
