Malaysias first and only Angkasawan Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, cofounder of Aladdinstreet.com with his custom-made Sokol spacesuit flown in from Russia.Nine years after his journey to space, Malaysia’s first angkasawan finally holds the memory of his space exploration in his hands. It was Oct 10, 2007 when Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor wore his custom-made Sokol spacesuit, emblematic of his standing as a spaceman, to rocket off in the Soyuz TMA-11 spacecraft. Now co-founder and chairman of the halal e-marketplace Aladdin Group of Companies, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar hopes to share a little of the magic he experienced at the International Space Station (ISS) by bringing his spacesuit bearing the Jalur Gemilang, back home.
“The suit was brought back for the benefit of future generations of Malaysians, 50 to 100 years from now.
“In fact, according to our National Blueprint they will send another angkasawan only by 2030.
“We have to focus on education in science and technology to raise doctors, scientists, aerospace engineers as future generations carry our hopes to overcome challenges of becoming a developed nation by 2020.
“So it was to inspire and open up the mindsets of children, encouraging them not only to become an angkasawan, but also to study science as it is the next frontier,” he said, elaborating on the prospects of space tourism.Fellow spaceman Russian Space Federation Cosmonaut Salizhan Sharipov hand-carried the customised suit weighing 9.5kg, directly from the Yuri Gagarin Aerospace Training Centre for its homecoming. Sharipov said every suit was precisely measured to fit every inch of each spacecraft crew member, down to their fingertips. “The spacesuit is designed as a rescue suit in case of emergencies, only used inside the spacecraft during launching, docking and landing,” he said. Moving ahead with their star-gazing exploits, Sharipov and Dr Sheikh Muszaphar are in talks to hold contests for secondary school students with the end-game of visiting Russia’s Star City in December for an educational tour. “It will be a week to two-week-long plan for those interested in space programmes to learn about cosmonauts and what training they have to go through,” said Sharipov. The handover ceremony of the Sokol suit to Aladdinstreet.com on Jan 18 was attended by Russian Federation in Malaysia Trade Representative Alexey Slizkov, Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Malaysia Daniyar Sarekenov, and Aladdin Group co-founder Datuk Seri Desmond To.
Dr Sheikh Muszaphar plans to display the spacesuit in Aladdinstreet.com’s office at Level 18 of Menara MBMR, Kuala Lumpur every day from 10am to 4pm.
This will be followed by a nationwide exhibit from February onwards, beginning with Negri Sembilan.http://www.thestar.com.my/metro/community/...-his-spacesuit/This post has been edited by ironmaid89: Jan 22 2016, 08:10 AM Attached thumbnail(s)

Lol pls he was only a space tourist. Not payload specialist or anything like that, don't think he will be celebrated a hundred years from now, maybe the second or third angkasawan with contribution will be remembered more.

9 years later, we still think it's a waste of money. Especially when social benefits are being withdrawn nowadays.
