Why say? I never noticed that. Haha

Well, i personally tested that. When i use the 3pin connector, the fan was like moving slower and the air preasure was not good enough for me. However, when i change it to molex, the preasure increase significantly..

Which makes me wonder, the box stated that it came together wit a ULNA adaptor that was supposed to lower the noise level of the fan. Would that adaptor be that specific 3pin connector? rclxub.gif

QUOTE(Kataro @ May 28 2007, 10:45 PM)
Run slow never mind ma...as long as can cool enough...and the fan can last longer... icon_rolleyes.gif

Wahaha..I dont want it to be too slow. Their air preasure is too low for me too accept. Was expecting something greater. Therefore, using the molex is fine with me..Anyway, who cares whether it last longer or not. With 6 years warranty, the price of RM65 is well worthit. LOL...

oic...I thought you mean connect it to mobo... what you mean is the 3 pin coonector come with the fan... yes, it is the adapter that you want to get last time...it does lower the noise but it slower the fan speed as well aka reduce the CFM... I think the adapter only good to use if you are in cold country or your rig is in air-cond room... if not, you will notice increase of temp for your system or CPU... icon_rolleyes.gif

Yea, thats the one i was saying. At first when i test it out, I was like, man, this thing sucks for a price this high. However, i changed my mind and use the molex connector and it went so good. Totally different air preasure generated. LOL..Even with the molex, its already noiseless. I guess i dont need it to be any more silent..

U mean u r using the U.L.N.A ( Ultra Low Noise Adaptor ) ??!!

Rotational Speed (+/- 10%) 1200 RPM
Airflow 81 m³/h ( 47.68 CFM )
Acoustical Noise 17 dB(A)

Rotational Speed with U.L.N.A. (+/- 10%) 800 RPM
Airflow with U.L.N.A. 59 m³/h ( 34.73 CFM )
Acoustical Noise with U.L.N.A. 8 dB(A)

U only have about 73% [ 59/81 ] of the fan actual performance.
That is why u have a performance drop of 27% & feel warm & slow.

Yea, that is the one. The problem is, Noctua did not label that 3pin connector as the ULNA adaptor. I thought it was like an extension for 3pin connectors so i use it..LOL...

Actually if you look carefully at the 3 pin connector, you will notice that it is not a ordinary connector... you can see there is a resistor there covered by rubber thingy... icon_rolleyes.gif

LOL! Luckily you found out!!! I just cannot imaging you coming to this thread and started saying bad things about the Noctua!!! sweat.gif sweat.gif

Maybe irangan should state it clearly in his post about what an ULNA is. Some noob might just also think it is an extension!

Sorry guys... Been very busy recently.

The adapter that come with the fan is the ULNA adapter. It is to make the fan slower and thus more silent. Sorry for not informing you guys about this. I dont know about that too before this.

LOL..Try using that adaptor and trust me, it wont just be me alone screaming..lol..

Well, i knew about what the ULNA adaptor is going to do to the fan. I asked about it previously as i thought it is going to lower the sound but maintain the air pressure.

Looking at the box content, i also saw the ULNA adaptor is included but who knows, that 3pin connector is that thing..lol..

For those with the noctua (NH-U12F), I've noticed something interesting.

I realized that the steel clips for fan mounting can be mounted higher or lower. As such, you don't have to put your fan at the centre of the heatsink.

I mean, look at your HSF. Because the heatsink is squared while your fan is rounded, your lower outer fins are not in direct air flow.

And another thing, notice that the top most fins are usually at room temperature!! (meaning that they do not need the fan up high)

So what I did was lower the fan as close to the bottom as possible so that more fins are exposed to direct air flow!!! rclxms.gif (the steel clips allow you to do that)

Dunno whether this will affect the cooling power of the HSF but I believe it would. Just that I can't get a constant ambient temperature to test this.......

Thanks for the info about the fan clip. As for the placement of the fan, actually it will not go anything lower much as there is a screw there... when the 1st time I install it, I already place it to touch the top of screw liao... sweat.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
