Great to see there is a section for postgraduate student like us.

Initially I choose to pursue my master as I am interested in doing teaching work in university. However, I discovered that I just merely enjoy the process of teaching, instead of doing research.

1. I am thinking of continuing in research mode, or switch to coursework based, as I am not that interested in doing research. Should I make my move to change?

2. I enjoy doing teaching work instead of doing research. Is there any position just for so called a "teaching lecturer" in university?

Hope to hear some sincere opinion from you guys. Thank you.

Most of the lecturers in private universities in Malaysia are basically "teaching lecturers" without any research obligations.

Research is not a prerequisite for promotion. It is encouraged if u have papers but not necessary.

I'm referring to those local private Universities.

Not Monash or Nottingham.

Teaching hours better than churning out research papers.

Just go class, sing song for a few hours, then come out.

Whereas research cannot sing song play ping pong.

Need to work hard for outputs.

1. I am thinking of continuing in research mode, or switch to coursework based, as I am not that interested in doing research. Should I make my move to change?

Nowadays it's difficult to get promoted in universities without research input, which is not only limited to publications unfortunately sad.gif

To answer your questions:

1) Definitely yes. You need a passion for the topic you are going to be doing research in because you are going to stay with it for a minimum of 2 years. Dun force yourself to do something you dun like as then, it will not be sustainable.

2) Yes, of course there is a position for "teaching only/focused lecturer" in universities. But you have to look around. And also, you have to remember that in the academic line, only research papers/journals/PhD can get you higher. It really is a very competitive environment right now.
