Hello! I would like to ask whether there are any news saying the price of car will drop next year? Specifically Toyota and Honda cars. Is it wise to buy now or wait next year? Thanks.

Usually how much cheaper?

If you apply loan now or later its still the same as the bank already announce the new loan and interest rate for next year. If you buy car now, the registration card will print out the exact date of purchase instead of year. If you buy now, got alot of promotion. So all and all, buy now better.

that's true, but also ur car value for resale would not be as high because at the end of the day, ur car's manufactured year is 2006, not 2007 if u wait till nxt year to buy.

If you can wait until March or April 2007, then its ok. Because the manufacturer will produce the car by then. They will still sell those 2006 car til march or april =).

very true.....anyway just my 2 cents.....

prices of car going down means that worse sales for proton unless they reduce their car price too which is unlikely......

no way the government will allow proton to die......the only way proton will survive is other car is more expensive than proton......so the least is the car prices will not change much and hope for no price increase......

why I say this is the only way proton will survive, even with VW joining in the bandwagon, no way there will be a turnaround fast enough to increase sales/quality drastically in 1 year....only with better quality and designs can proton gain more customers' confidence and sales...........it takes more time.....so until that happens, no way that prices of car will be going down.

But, the problem is ur current car trade-in value will also drop at the same time. So how... a Malaysian car buyer is always in a lose-lose situation.

i believe they are refering to "1) import tax". but not sure if that is the right term anymore as the locally assembled/manufactured cars also got tax.

that is true. i have given up buying new cars already. if i want a car, will hunt for 2nd hand cars in the range of 1 year - 2 years. save a lot from buying new car. yes a bit difficult to find a good condition one, so just have to be patient. of course you need to have a lot of time and hopefully have enough knowlegde on how to value/judge a car's condition, else need to bring a friend expert along during survey.

Not an expert esp, on car's engine, so dunno whether gd or bad or whatever just based on what I hear fr the engine sound.

What if people don't buy car at all ( Total economy recession), be it Proton or other imported marques. I'm sure they are struggling like hell pushing up the sales. I never expect the price will go down absurdly, but I'm sure the potential buyer will get attractive package or lower interest rates.

if there is any increases, they would've said it in the budget2007 already.

i don't see any significant increase in prices... but i do believe some companies will take advantage and increase slightly because of some new models being introduced.

fyi, proton sales has slowed down significantly the past 2 years. they better lower the prices, otherwise, it's bad for them. consumer nowadays are very picky. wink.gif

I heard from a friend of mine who happens to be a sales car dealer, car prices will be dropping next year. For proton the discount, they maybe give you another RM2k discount

No they will not announce it at the Budget. Any tax changes for imported/local cars are always announced last minute to prevent any panic selling/buying/stalling that might happen. And since car purchase is based on the year, it is prudent that they announce it only at the beginning of the year. This has been the practice for the last few years when the tax structure kept changing.

if u need a car, n u have the money, juz buy now.. i dont think theyll be any difference if u buy now or later..

only thing is, if u could wait, better wait til next yr.. coz eventhough its juz one day gap, 31st dec 2006 n 1st jan 2007, the former will still be considered 2006 n the latter 2007.. thus, difference in 2nd hand value when the time comes 2 sell it back later..

thanks for the compliment but the things is, i am not really expert in judging condition of car's engine also. only know how to check to see if the car got accident
before or not.

he he he....actually even experience person will make mistake. no need to say about me lah.....i am no expert at all....so that's why i brought my dad along when i really like a car. also sometimes....the car will only give funny noises when on the move.....because got loading to the engine.....so the important thing is to test drive and have a feel on the car......

very important thing about buying a car is never never never ever fall into the trap of making fast decision. they salesman will always try to rush you to put deposit even when you say you want to just think about it first. take your time to inspect the car. bring one or two person along so that the salesman will not always try to distract your attention when you are checking the car out.

how I wish of that possibility....but.....i am pretty sure this will never happen. some people just can't afford to buy car that is above their budget......there will always be people who buy proton.....like me.... cry.gif .....but at least now i got a choice to buy perodua....cheap but better quality than proton....this is my 2 cents. those who like proton over perodua pls don't flame me ya.

totally agree.....they will not announce it till the very last minute.......to avoid economy crisis and panic in the nation......

same thing on petrol prices....they will only annouce a few hours before they want to increase the price.....the last time petrol price increase....they announce it at the 9.00pm - 10.00 pm news. Then you see the petrol station suddenly got JAM till 12.00 midnight..... vmad.gif

In my own opinion, I strongly believe the chances of car reducing in the price is very low. Even if it drops, it won't be much. But in the same time, the interest rate will go up, petrol price go up, toll price go up and bla bla bla....

Imagine the situation where the price just drop once in a blue moon, but with the increment of other rates, it will make u suffer as long as you are still living in Msia.

Only God knows what is going to happen to Msia in the future if the situation continues or even getting worse....

I'm not a political issue news follower and I seldom read newspaper, BUT I think I saw from the newspaper saying that there is no election for the next year.... Something fishy going on internal?

Haha, sorry ya for running out from the topic....

well makes sense, though I would not buy yet. The AFTA is not in full swing right? So if you can wait, wait then. OR you can find some student study overseas, bring back a car? Or if you live near langkawi, can use that excuse of bringing car into peninsular for 3 months, than go back 1 day, back 3 montsh.... laugh.gif Worth it? Civic in langkawi is 70K.

Well, Dr. M and Rafidah mentioned many times that car prices won't go down so accept the fact, it's better to buy now than to wait because in the future, you might not even be able to buy a kancil below RM40K because prices of steel are going up and our import duties even slightly reduced will not have any big effect on the car prices, so what if the current car price is cheaper by a few thousand but it is still not within reach by normal income earners. Even my friends have to settle for a second hand car, no choice what since they have just graduated and nowadays most jobs require you to have our own transport. If you have the money, don't think here, think there, it's best to buy it now, there's no way car prices will be cheaper, not even if Proton gulung tikar, there's Perodua and Naza, indirectly also our so known as our national carmakers too. sweat.gif

true but for many, it helps stretches your finance monthly and yearly... in some ways, it's good because the future is so uncertain (heck! it could end with a big bang!) that if you look at it from another perspective, 9 year loan can be a blessing... hehe laugh.gif

Ya, it's true.

Pro's = Less monthly payment burden compared to huge sum if you get 5 years repayment.

Con's = Your paying more according to yearly interest (eg: 2.9% x 9 years x loan taken ). More or less you won't realised it until you sit down and calculated back how much you already make the bank richer laugh.gif

Well it depends, if you have less commitment you can go for shorter duration, or else stretch it until 9 years ( I heard they gonna introduce 10 years soon tongue.gif). Some say it's ridiculous , but if you want to use the same car for more than 9 years, I think it's worth it. If you want to change the car during the 9 years repayment, you can always opt for refinance. The car depreciation is same but how much you already dumped your money for the loan settlement is another thing. I'm sure people who get 5 years loan pay more than people who get 9 years loan during the first 5 years repayment. Do your math tongue.gif

If I'm surrounded with commitment I prefer to use the current money for profitable investment rather than tightening my stomach just to pay the huge sum every month although you're save with the interest. If you can dig up some profit more than interest you paid each year, why not rolleyes.gif

In the long run, once you gather your capital, the money should work for you, not you work for the money. wish.gif

maybe price will drop but not that much. and the interest rates will increase.
you win some, you lose some. people will buy new cars since there is attractive
packages like zero installment for 3 months or so, but in the end they cannot
fulfill the installment coz of increase in standard of living.

besides, you have to take notice of the ever increasing price of petrol. from what
i see now is the market sentiment is so high that our index is on the bullish, so
the buying power is there. my conclusion is, if you can afford it, go ahead.

interest for vios already 2.9% and not 2.6% which i bought in june 2006...

means for 60k loan, total interest is 10920 for 7 years...

if rate is 12180

means more 1260 ...

currently proton still have 200,000 units of unsold car + another 200,000 units in the 2nd hand market.

malaysia annual sales for the car industry is approx. 500,000 unit

price going up/down? time will tell.

interest up? Dato Zeti says interest rate will staballize, if it goes up then the economy will suffer. In that case, better save your $$ and wait the bank to lelong their cars tongue.gif

If you need to court a girl with a car, you better dump the girl lah, where true love is concerned, if she really loves you, even you use a kereta lembu also doesn't matter lah. You ask the girl one question, you love me or love my money?

Get a car if you really need it, otherwise, just use a motorcycle lor, buying a car to impress a girl is nuts, if you buy a car and take your parents for sight seeing then that's sensible. rclxms.gif

this i don't quite agree with you.
motorbike saves a lot money, this is indeed true.
but, just get a motorcycle, if living in busy city, no no.
it's so dangerous riding a bike. some idiot drivers might just knock you down for no reason. even you're not wrong and obey all the rules, but one slight hit from a car and can fly few meters away.

for the sake of my safety and my gf, i would still insist to drive a car instead of riding a bike.

anyway, back to topic.
i feel the car prices will drop. if raise also not much.

those cars' price go up because of car enthusiasts only...as far as the bank is concern.....they will not provide full loan if you want to buy those cars.....as for them the price for the car is not that high.........

The problem is its more harder to get FR cars nowdays. Alot of manufacturers dont wanna make FR as it is too expensive and only Manufacturers with passion like Mazda and Nissan only make some FR models which suited for drifters.

Well there one more manufacturer who stay true to FR, if u can afford, is the good old BMW. brows.gif

dun forget, if u really wanna make an old skool car into a proper drift car, expect at least 20k for the sport..... engine upgrades/transplant, LSD, good set of suspensions, another set of tyres + rims, roll cage+chassis re-weld....etc

all these not inclusive of maintenance, wear & tear parts.......

back to topic: price fluctuations should nvr determine when u purchase a car, rather than needs arise,..... shakehead.gif

dont forget that when new car price go down, the used cars price also go down.

so if new car price reduce, only buyers will benefit. but at the same time, all car owners will face instant depreciation
