So most LG Oled tv models are fake dolby vision?
Only your LG G3 and panasonic oled are capable for true dolby vision?

What? rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

If the TV has fake DV, then DV can't even be activated when you watch any content that has DV lol. There's no fake or real here, it either works or it doesn't. Every LG OLED release since 2019, DV works.

I think you're misunderstanding tonemapping. If a TV doesn't have the capability to reproduce the peak luminance of a frame in a movie, it will simply be tonemap to fit within the TV's peak luminance window.
So if we take a LG C3 for example, it can maybe do 800 nits maximum on a 10% window, so when a scene in a movie has anything higher than 800 nits (let's say an object like the sun is 2000 nits), it will just be mapped down to fit within the 800 nits capability of the C3. Everything above that will just be clipped away, meaning there's a loss of detail.

Right, like you mentioned it’s the relative toning down so to speak. Beyond the “clipping away” does the processing also dim the rest of the image relatively to make the higher nits source sections appear brighter?

Is there a 83G4 in the horizon for Malaysia? Was the 83G3 released last year?

No, whatever can't be displayed by the TV will just be clipped away.

Here's an image that describes the issue:

user posted image

LEFT: LG CX (clipped to 400 nits) RIGHT: LG CX (default max luminance 650 nits).

Basically if your display is not bright enough, you just lose detail as you can see on the left display. But if your display is bright enough, then detail is retained. It's a pretty brief example but you get the idea.

That’s a really noticeable difference. Damn

Even the lower brightness causes this dull grey tint almost taking away from the scene’s intent.

Really such a significant difference now? Last I checked prior to getting my own G3 77", the C3 77" was only RM2.5k less at HVN.
*
I couldn't justify paying 21K for the 77" G3. It was planned for 2025 (probably the G4 by then)... but cos my E6 suddenly died, my budget also didn't have the time to grow.

It was either a 65" G3 at RM12K or the 77" C3, so I opted for the latter.

Hi!! How are you? I’m also in the market for a 75-85 inch TV. Looking at OLEDs or Mini-leds. Don’t know which!

Hi all BRO,

Wanna ask will you fully power off your LG OLED tv everyday or just let it on standby mode 24/7?

And I will switch off the tv then fully power off after one hour because sometime it will auto do the pixel refresher.

Is this way that I do correct?

If you switch off your tv, there is no power to perform pixel refreshing.

Still got power, I switch off the tv by the remote control red button on/off then wait 1 hour to fully power off(unplug the power cord).

The pixel refreshing should complete within 1 hour before you power off the set.

Uhmm "pixel cleaning" (I hate this term) for the short one lasts 5-10 minutes. Long "pixel cleaning" lasts up to 2 hours.

You don't ever need to pull the plug from the TV.

I know normally will only take 5~15minutes, but i just let it until one hour.

So you always on standby mode 24/7 without power off?

Long pixel clean will do auto after above 2000hours.
So your tv also always on standby mode 24/7?

Yes 24/7. There is zero reason to unplug it.

Switch off vs Stand by is different thing sweat.gif

Press the power button of the remote to turn off the display = let the TV goes into standby mode (Energy still running behind at low point)

Unplug the wall plug / switch off the wall plug = switch off the TV thumbsup.gif

Normally I just refer to the sizes available on LG malaysia website. It seems like there isn't a 83" G3 released last year.

I enjoy reading your thread on fundamentals of TV calibration by the way. tongue.gif

Anybody has issues with Playing NEtflix and Amazon Prime today ? My C2 wont play any shows, but HBO Go, Disney+ etc works fine. Not an account issue as they play fine on the PC.
Already updated to the latest WebOS.

From day of purchase, I'll just switch off the telly (by remote) and leave it on standby mode 24/7.
