When i was young last time, i listened to those rock songs metal n stuffs. I still couldnt understand why they are so popular cuz they cant really sing (those songs perhaps are meant to be have ppl screaming ). Now im kinda understood abit cuz they are very good in instruments wise.

I can give examples (no offence)

-sliknot
-trivium ( some songs intro like that )

and many more.

Forget about mainstream thingy, IN MY OPINION, they are just emphasizing on the instrumental aspects. As a fan of metallica still i dun think james can sing well but he is great in what we called thrash metal singing.

Slapping my own face haha, here i would like to say Corey Taylor really has good voice but not the way he sings in slipknot.

if you want to hear Corey Taylor sing properly.... listen to Stone Sour.

slipknot is not a band that want to emphasize 'beautiful' singing. the lyrics are all towards aggression....so harsh growls or screaming is expected.

this argument has not taken grindcore bands into account yet. how do you want to argue grind music by the singing? lolz!

it's just how the band wants their sound to be.

it's more to musical preference actually... either they want to sing in harsh voice or good voice. it's not that those band singers cannot sing properly, it's just the way they bring the music.

ooh hmm perhaps. my question was they sing like that issit becuz they just want show us their instrumentals side n emotion side more.

I guess they are trying to blend their voices well with the instruments they are playing. It sounds weird for an opera singer to sing in a rock song..

if you want to listen to metal tune with 'beautiful voice' ...try listen to power metal songs

try listening to some therion songs, well, they got choir in it. some r beautiful. well, the vocalist only sing 3 or 4 songs in each album. but they're good.

LOL ... come on dude, music is something abstract and just can't be decided just like that ... slipknot and trivium are great band in my own opinion .... different people have different taste in music, jazz is really not for me tho .... it's hard to define a great musician or vocalist or any kind of instrument (but of coz the bad one is easy to determine )

i think those hair band from the late 80s and early 90s have really good vocal and skill, think Skid Row, Guns and Roses, etc ...

any above average guitarist could tell..
the riffs , solos , vocals ,notes selection are immature

u know that its the same like older ppl ask u, what kind of song they are singing like screaming. some ppl will think dargonforce good but some not same for trivium n so on. Me myself enjoy listening to trivium, whether the musical selection crappy anot its depend seriously. they have skills but they dun have ideas for good n emotional musical sound maybe that explains it.

and by the way dont just follow what ppl thinks like go shredder forum n ppl say what u follow. think why n ask if dun understand

sometimes when i listen to slipknot, CoB, trivium or whatever metal/heavy metal/black metal band...i'll just ignore the vocal and just enjoy the music...

want good instrumental and vocal? dream theater maybe?

personally i guess corey taylor and robert plant have good voice..dream theater not my choice of vocal i guess hehe. u have got to watch john petrucci's videos on youtube i wonder he or some dudes edit those vids.. its funny for me. saying malmsteen u fat axx! dun give me a recipe book but give me my music note book!

omg..u seem cant understand my msg..lol. nvm la.i was asking for solution but u jz came in teasing in a way. please read my 1st post n understand it. i was asking why they do so? n whether they wanna show us how good they can play was just one of the factors i show up here. im jz ok with them only not a fan, i didnt say i like them cuz they can play very fast n so on. i meant they are very good after hard work n practising but they cant make music that touch ppl emotionally for Dforce as example answering ur shredder bashing thing.

dunno about you guys, but actually I found Dragonforce songs are very boring and tons of repetitive sounds. And they sound like feng-tau! lol!

if you do your research ..which you didn't ..

try getting old trivium's demo ..it is so much different than what they are playing now ok..

their manager figured that if they change their style a little bit (singing , lyrics etc) they can sell more , have a better market...and the band decided to follow the manager's direction..(actually, nothing is wrong with this..don't you realize how "mainstream" trivium is getting?)

thats why, trivium are a bunch of wankers who wanna get rich and get laid..got it ?

i don't think slipknot's singing is bad. the band really shines that way i guess, it's their style. same like all those straight edge hardcore bands like agnostic front, madball, biohazard and strife. it's their aggression that people like, not how good or how fast they play and people also wont expect a "beautiful vocal" from such genres.

actually u cant say they are wankers.....just my 2 cents:
music isnt always stay the same, for me there is no mainstream thing. more people are into them now and those old fans dun like their new way of style.they are musicians but income also very important man.
this world end up still relate to money, u cant change that. there alot metal bands but kinda unknown.

btw is slipknot guitar playing sucks?for me i think its ok.lol df mark n herman really feng tau too much..their skills are good

i kinda like the way slipknot's guitarist style...to me, that's one way of showing anger and aggression through their instruments...

of course, there are many other great guitarist that can do that as well...

i had to agree that dragonforce's song are kind of....repetitive...i downloaded their discography and guess what...most of the songs sounded the same...

but herman's cool...there's a video of him showing how to do special noises on youtube...quite cool...should check it out..

Personally I think heavy music can have beautiful vocals too its just the band's choice of vocal style or in some cases they didn't have a choice since most people with good voices wont wanna get into a band that plays heavy stuff.

And yes blackangel, Trivium are wankers. Mainstream stuff aside most of the time their stuff aren't that identifiable from the rest of the pack. They do have their moments but most of the time their stuff isn't that much different from other metal greats and their average songwriting does not help. Fine if being wanky is the way they like to express themselves but they are still wankers.

ermm...i think i shld listen to steve vai and some solo guys thing. But Satriani's songs are quite boring...for some. Steve Vai's one like lari tune but the EQ he set makes his guitar sound different from ppl! listen back to clapton...easier, good vocal and good guitar skills.

Both of them are great players but to me, Vai controls his instrument and makes his instrument speaks, cry, scream, angry, laugh... Which is why I admire... I always think his song always has a story in it.

While Satch's improvising is somehow great. Some simple song such as Ten Words are just very beautiful. It is not hard but the feel and the whole thing Satch composed is just simply beautiful.

For singing? Music is an art.. so there is no rule in which kind of singing is nice. Even shout and yell like Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth) is still part of singing. It just depends on your style. Of course, when you singing something angry, of course you cry, scream, shout and sometimes ur vocal is not so clear to be listened but tell me in this world, does someone sing happily and clearly when he sad and angry? Of course he shows his emotion, scream.. and when he sings in a sad mood.. some words come out are blur. When ur gf cries, something the way she talks is not clear too right?
Hehe this is music, that's why for me.. I nvr focus on what the fella sings on the music. I try to understand. Sometimes I read the lyric and to get the whole meaning of the song. So when I listen to it, I just feel it.. not concentrating on what the fella talks but feel all the elements in the music. such as the drum beat, guitars, piano, violin etc.

Of course, this is my way of listening.

i wouldnt have that money for maintenance if i were to abuse guitar bridge there. somore its gold hardware.
