Not tried, but it might work as toothpaste contains a mild abrasive (like car polish), so it could smooth out the scratches.

i think the methods people use to fix scratches on ipod nanos should work, as long as your scratches are not too deep.

I bought protectors just to protect my nds man.. i wish to get the shock casing.. but its in USD.. very ex man... around RM140
