How much to buy for kid who starts to learn guitar?

depends how spoilt the kid is / how rich the father is.
but really so many options to go...
go cheap, cheap things sometimes no good.
go cheap, later on maybe buy new better guitar as kid improves.
go expensive, later on kid want a lolex instead...die

if the child is small size, i would recommend Cort Earth Mini which is about RM790. If budget allows, Taylor GS mini will set you back about RM2,300.

If he/she can play a full size guitar, you can start with Yamaha F310 which is less than RM500.

Note that all these are prices for new guitars.

Wat is it about Yamaha, its almost always THE hand-me-down / inherited guitar hehehehe... I had my old man's yamaha acoustic for years, played it till the guitar fell apart beyond fixing. Lotsa memories that gitar tong. Parents these days give their kids physical, material trinkets, send them to classes, give them everything money can buy. But curiosity, experience, passion - the most important things in life - that, money can't buy.

i guess during those days, there aren't much guitar brand competition. most probably yamaha was people's first choice those days.

nowadays, people have lotsa choices and those affluent ones will go for US or Japan made guitars.

my hand me downs was a congress classical and a hofner hollow body.
somehow even after all these yrs i have never owned a yamaha before.

when i was much younger i saw yamaha annd suzuki musical instruments. I wondered to myself why there is no honda musical instruments.
