Hi, I need some help urgently as my windows 10 is downloading at snail pace. I started last night before 10pm. And now the percentage is only about 67% complete. What's wrong with it? Any way to speed it up? It's eating up my internet data!!

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 2 2016, 01:00 AM) usually to speed up a web browser is to have a good internet connection and use ram disk for web cache. (my favorite is softperfect ramdisk; a small disk will do, eg. 2gb) for ms.edge, you can move internet explorer's temporary folder to the ram disk. (yes, internet explorer; press win+r, type iexplore to run it) alternatively, just use other web browsers. Thanks for your reply, but I am not sure what you mean by the words coloured in red. I am not exactly computer savvy. 1) Are you saying I need to go buy a "ram disk" from a shop and then use it like it's an external drive whereby I can save the internet explorer temporary folder there? I just drag the whole list into the ram disk? Is this what you mean? 2) press "win+r"? I cannot locate "win+r" on my keyboard. Kindy explain.

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 2 2016, 11:04 PM) Yeah but it's fine i already got esds that i need. However I forgot to put ei.cfg to lemme choose w10 pro just now so i ended up installing w10 home (automatically activated with key embedded in bios) the good news is that everything went very well Ok sorry. 1. Ramdisk is a ram-based virtual drive created with software, like softperfect ramdisk. You install the software and create a ramdisk based on your needs, then move your web browser cache folders to it. 2. 'win+r' means pressing windows key and r key at the same time. It will bring up the run dialogue. I keep on giving Windows 10 a chance but every time it frustrates me. I can't even access to my website for the last one hour and I found out it is because the PC is updating at the background. The updating is taking up so much capacity that I cannot access the Internet website. It is updating so many items. And I am not able to stop it from auto updates. I am switching back to win 7. I have to use my smartphone to post this message. Windows 10 really idiot!!

QUOTE(XeactorZ @ Aug 3 2016, 10:38 PM) download before sleep ? windows update eat all internet speed you can stop by doing this start > cmd (run as admin) > type "net stop wuauserv" and "net stop bits" (type without quotes "") else before you sleep just let it update, good luck QUOTE(horns @ Aug 3 2016, 11:36 PM) Oh too bad. Nvm just use whatever you are comfortable. As for the background updates, i think it's something else, because the cumulative update to reach 14393.10 is just below 50MB. Note that apps that run in background are a lot in the new w10. I disable all of them. If you are using wifi, you can set up windows updates so that it's not carried out on metered connections. Thanks for both your replies. I guess win 10 is too mind boggling for me. Too advanced. How would a person like me (who has limited computer knowledge) know how to stop those auto updates? I have important stuff I needed to do. I tried to stop the updates but there is no button to stop it, also the updates are so damn slow. And I can't access any other webpage in the meantime. Those people at Microsoft should make their operating systems easier and more user friendly to non-computer savvy people. It is frustrating. QUOTE(horns @ Aug 4 2016, 01:05 AM) understood. i really suggest you move on and stick to what makes you more comfortable. i do suspect your problems are related to internet bandwidth, but imo an os shouldn't depend on such things to behave nicely. My internet subscription (bandwidth?) is not really that super big. Streamyx. Just enough for my normal work. I also don't really download a lot of stuff. But all that automatic download eating up my internet speed. Normally there is a prompt to tell me there is an update and I will decide when to download it. I was able to control it. But with win 10, I wasn't able to. There was no "disable" button as in the earlier post by delsoo. This post has been edited by darrenboy: Aug 4 2016, 09:25 AM
