QUOTE(tinarhian @ Apr 9 2016, 12:06 AM) It just occured to me that you can't disable windows update in Windows 10. Any idea on how to disable it? http://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-pre...oading-updates/Also disable the Windows Update service. http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/35656-e...ndows-10-a.html^ Metered connection will prevent auto-update I did all these because my sole internet line is on my monthly mobile 3GB connection. Ain't gonna waste it for Windows Update.

Can I install previous years DirectX into a Win10 computer? I have some old games, which will normally prompt for DirectX Redistributable installation.

I have an SSD & HDD. Win10 is in the SSD. All my data are in the HDD. Based on HowToGeek, Fast Startup will lock the Windows hard disk during a shutdown, preventing access from other OS. QUOTE When you shut down a computer with Fast Startup enabled, Windows locks down the Windows hard disk. You won’t be able to access it from other operating systems if you have your computer configured to dual-boot. Even worse, if you boot into another OS and then access or change anything on the hard disk (or partition) that the hibernating Windows installation uses, it can cause corruption. If you’re dual booting, it’s best not to use Fast Startup or Hibernation at all. Question: Since it will lock my SSD, does it lock my non-Windows-drive HDD? I have plan to use my data HDD with Ubuntu.

QUOTE(horns @ Aug 2 2017, 08:38 PM) i think this update should be ok. thanks a lot! edit: a note - when you find that the w10 iso is larger than 5gb, like en_windows_10_multiple_editions_version_1703_updated_july_2017_x64_dvd_10925340 released recently, use exFAT format instead of fat32 if you created the bootable w10 installation usb stick manually, used for uefi installation (basically the process is download the iso, and extract the entire contents into the exFAT formatted usb stick. done) QUOTE(horns @ Aug 5 2017, 07:35 AM) 1. format the usb stick with exFAT; 2. extract the contents from iso into the usb stick. that's all lol is it as simple as that? extract/copy out the ISO contents? no need to make extra settings for the USB stick to be bootable? then no point to use Rufus too. just copy and paste This post has been edited by Skylinestar: Aug 7 2017, 12:07 PM

I'm now using the media creation tool to download the iso for future use. it's weird that it doesn't prompt me which version (home or pro or edu) will be downloaded.
does that mean the iso will contain both the home & pro files & all the languages in it?

QUOTE(sp6068 @ Oct 18 2017, 04:14 PM) Damn the task manager is like godlike now can monitor GPU's stats. No need to get 3rd party softwares to check its load. Only thing missing is no TEMPERATURE monitor. still lousy, no live OSD while gaming (rivastatisctictuner ) This post has been edited by Skylinestar: Oct 18 2017, 08:32 PM

Here's a little situation:
1. Bought an old PC that came preloaded with Win7 Ultimate (retail version). Bought it because I heard one can transfer the retail licence to a different rig. I don't have the Win7 product key. 2. Upgraded to Win10 Pro myself. Then I linked it to my hotmail while going through the "Activation" settings. 3. "Activation" showed "Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account". 4. "slmgr -dli" showed "RETAIL channel"
Now, I am ready to buy a new gaming PC. Can I simply transfer that digital licence to my new rig, considering it's retail version?
Or is there a need to go through M$ chat?
Do I need to "uninstall/remove" that key from my old rig? How do I tell M$ that I have removed the key from that old rig, freeing a spot for my new rig?
