Is it still relevant? Given that paintball fields are sprouting up like mushrooms all over the country.

MALAYSIA
A lot of people in Malaysia ask us weather they need a license for paintball markers. YES YOU DO.
According to the ARMS ACT 1960 AKTA SENJATA 1960 - MALAYSIA
"ARM" Means any lethal barreled weapon of any description from which any shot, bullet or missile can be discharged, or which can be adapted for the discharge of any shot, bullet or other missile, and any weapon of whatever description designed or adapted or which can be adapted for the discharge of any noxious liquid, gas or other thing, and includes an air gun, air pistol, automatic gun, pistol and any component parts of any such weapon, and any accessory to those weapons designed or adapted to diminish the noise or flash caused by firing the weapon"
A paintball marker uses air right? So with reference to the above you DO need a license.
Firearm license needed. There are 2 permits. The first one is the actual Firearms permit which will state how many markers you can own. The second permit if the import permit for customs to import the markers. If you do not have this then you have to purchase the markers for an authorized firearms dealer.
How do I get my firearms license?
1. Go to your OCPD who is responsible for your district where your planned field will be and fill up the necessary firearms forms (PERMINTAAN MEMBELI/MENUKAR NAMA/MEMBAWA MASUK/MEMBAWA KELUAR/MENGGUNAKAN SENJATA DAN PELURU)
2. Submit completed forms to OCPD. Go for interview with OCPD.
3. OCPD will vet and recommended and pass to CPO (Chief Police Officer of the State)
4. CPO will then vet and recommend and pass to Bukit Aman
5. Bukit Aman will then vet and then recommend and pass to IGP (INSPECTOR GENRAL OF POLICE - IN MALAYSIA THERE IS ONLY ONE!)
6. IGP will then decide to approve or not.
ONLY THE IGP CAN APPROVE A FIREARMS LICENSE IN MALAYSIA. NO ONE ELSE CAN APPROVE IT!!!
PLEASE BE VERY CLEAR ON THIS. NO ASSOCIATON OR COMPANY CAN GRANT YOU A LICENSE. DO NOT BE CHEATED OR LIED TO.
IF YOU WISH TO OPERATE ILLEGALLY BE PREPARED FOR THE CONSEQUENCES.
This process will take anywhere from 1 year to 2 years and is not guaranteed. Yes, there are MANY illegal fields in Malaysia but it is only a matter of time before they will be shut down. It's not fair to the legal fields that have to pay for licenses; annual renewals have insurance coverage and build a proper storage facility.
Your field, before being granted the approval, will need to have a strong room built to store the markers.
Depending on your license, you may or may not be allowed to apply for an import permit. If you are not allowed to apply for the import permit then you will have to purchase the markers for an authorized LEGAL firearms dealer.
Mobile Fields in Malaysia
No such license in existence. There is no such thing as a mobile paintball license. Don't be fooled!!
Take note that the license is according to location. It CANNOT be moved without POLICE APPROVAL. That means the markers cannot be moved to a different location.
All other equipment does not require approval (gas tanks, paintballs, etc). You might have to pay import tax on them that is all.
Individual License to own a paintball marker
The Police will not grant a license for an individual to own a paintball marker so don't bother applying.
I have a marker/we have markers overseas, can we bring them to Malaysia?
For this question, please talk to a field that actually has a licenses. They should be able to arrange it for you.
