Hi guys,
I'm looking for a new grinder for espresso. Anything you guys can recommend under RM 3k? Low retention, easy to clean. Noise doesn't bother me. Small for home use. To replace my Ascaso i-Mini that I've used for 8 years, with a Vibiemme Domobar Jr Double Boiler.
I'm kinda fascinated with the Baratza Sette 270Wi cuz then I save a step weighing๐
Also looking at the Eureka Specialita.
Your input is appreciated!
Steven.

QUOTE(lowkl @ Dec 10 2019, 11:22 AM) If you are willing to purchase directly from overseas, there is the Niche Zero. There is a local distributor but the markup would place it above.your budget. Hi Low, Who, and how much is the local distributor charging for the Niche? Apologies I've been out of the loop for a while. I'll Google it Thanks! QUOTE(dwRK @ Dec 10 2019, 08:35 PM) nice lookin grinder this... good price too for a big conical Yeah. In my search for a low retention grinder I did come across the Niche, but wasn't aware that it's available in Malaysia until Low pointed it out. I didn't want to go through Indiegogo. So I called Dankoff about the NZ, and they have both black and white in stock. However I was told to go to their office only next week because this week they're doing stock checking, and can't sell anything.๐

Got the Niche Zero today from Dankoff. Thanks again to lowkl for clueing me in on its availability, and mieza on the 10% discount. I owe you guys coffee๐ At Dankoff they couldn't give me the 10% off unless I paid for it through their website. So I had to whip out the phone and do it there and then. Good thing they had their barista make two lattes for me๐ while I did that and waited for them to complete the ensuing paperwork, and getting it from the store. I wanted a white one, but they only had black, so I took it. The Niche now sits next to the Ascaso and Vibiemme.๐

QUOTE(dwRK @ Dec 16 2019, 11:26 PM) universal motor with plenty of speed reduction gears sure can party... btw ascaso can come with flats...but good lah, the conical can do great coarse grinds for coffee... The Ascaso, and it's 4 to 5 grams of retention, will be used for the coarser grinds, which hopefully won't cling to the insides as much as the finer espresso grind.๐

QUOTE(dwRK @ Dec 17 2019, 01:06 PM) introducing my first grinder... this was ripped from a breville barista I think...bought it from eBay ages ago an illy can for base and a plastic cup hopper...lol the burrs are good for coffee, but trouble grinding hard beans because of plastic gears. has the same burrs as the smart grinder. noisy as hell...not much retention as I pick it up and shake it all out...hahaha I'm sure shaking out the grinds gave you a good workout ๐ Maybe you can try mounting it at an angle like a Ceado E37Z Hero, and it could become a low retention single doser!
