Wow ! nice info there on the PID. Would sure like to install it myself but not sure how. Anyway I'm a Poemia user too. Have been using it for 2 years plus, depressurised the portafilter and using a 53mm tamper to tamp. Grind wise using a cheap China Yangchia / Flyeagle 600N grinder can give me quite some nice grinds , my dosage is 16gm of 45ml coffee in 25 secs.

As for the Stock pannarello , i replaced it with this Poemia Pannarello its basically a pannarello but once you remove the cover its a normal steam wand. Steam wise i used the steaming trick where i start steaming right before the steaming light turns on, can produce nice microfoam since the boiler is keep on producing steam.

lowkl you can check out the wand in the above link if you want to replace the stock panarello and extend the length of the steaming wand.

Cheers!

guy where to find saeco poemia part ?
my water/pump control broke after 1 day of using but sen heng refuse for warranty claim .... wtf
*
Hi,

Sorry to hear that, but senheng should at least help you with the warranty or parts.

Alternatively you could go to philips service centre at Jalan tandang PJ and enquire about the price of the replacement part.

Is it the silver knob that is broken? The pump and machine still functioning well?

Hi Coffee lovers! Especially Poemia users or future Poemia owners.

Made a short video pulling 2 shots with the Saeco Poemia using non pressurized portafilter

My daily coffee dosage is 16gm of beans to 35-45ml of espresso in 27 seconds.

For Lattes the ratio will be 1:3 ratio.

Grinder used China/Akira M520A/Yangchia600N , 2 notches before the burrs hit each other. 1 notch before will choke the Poemia.

Cheers!

dwRK yeah seems fast at first, i suspect its channelling. Once the puck expands it slows down the flowrate. Would be great if i have a bottomless portafilter to check for chanelling and see whether the grinder is good.

lowkl if your grinder can grind fine enough and choke the poemia, then set the grind size a notch up higher and should be able to get a good extraction.

patryn33 for latte anywhere between 1:3 to 1:5 of espresso to milk ratio would be nice. All depends on the beans and roast level.

I recently just started on a naked and i'm ashamed to admit more than 50% of my shots had channeling  rclxub.gif
What have I been drinking for all the previous ones I pulled laaa..... lol

Lol...i cant help but think the same way too. Well bottomless portafilter is another level where you get to see the grinders performance.

Well as long as we enjoy the coffee from each of our own setup then it should be ok.

Based on your wonderful video I have once again endeavoured to depressurize my Poemia. Bringing down the grind size to visually similar to your video, I have managed to *finally* pull a shot taking longer than 20 sec (about 22 sec) to get 45 ml with a decent *REAL* crema!!! Woo hoo!

HOWEVER ..... I have to admit... don't like the taste!! It tastes strong (expected), bitter (a disappointment) and muddy (a nasty surprise).

I tried increasing the grind size today and compensating by increasing the coffee to 16gm; now the extraction took only 13 sec, crema was low (still there though) and the muddiness was much less... still more bitter than the pressurized shot.

Any pointers?

The PID temperature controller experiment has been put on hold as the unit I got is not according to spec (no alarm function) so I'm returning it. Will share once a decent unit is received.

Hi,

Good to hear that you manage to pull a shot longer than 20 sec. If its muddy and bitter could be that your grinder is the culprit where it grinds too fine (muddiness) for some grinds on that dose.

What kinda beans are you using? Dark roast or medium roast beans?

Wow Genecafe CBR-101, new and not used before. Thats a steal. Too bad out of my budget.

Helloo everybody! Good morning!

My quick review Mister Coffee. Bought 2 packs from them, ordered on Wednesday night, Friday afternoon the parcel arrive at my place.

Bought the espresso classic and espresso pearl. I would say its the best value for money coffee ever. RM30 for 500g of espresso classic best bang for the buck.

Here is some pics of the espresso classic blend. 15gm beans, 26 secs pull, yeild 55gm espresso. Taste exactly as described on the packaging for the espresso classic, full body and strong aftertaste. no hints of acidity at all. This blend is good with milk imo.

cheers!!

mH3nG nottyKitty update on the classic espresso blend...pull a few shots after that...15gm of beans yeilds 55-60gm espresso. The crema suggests that this blend could have more robusta beans in it. Maybe a blend of robusta and arabica(brazil and/or indonesian beans).

15g -> 55g is a very long shot. I assume you're grinding very fine. Doesn't it taste overextracted?
*
Yeah i guess so. Taste wise, not too bad then again its subjective its ok for me with the money i paid for the beans. This is with my entry level grinder and machine. I am using the China 600N grinder and saeco poemia unpressurized.

Grind any finer it chokes my machine...i get only 15gm of espresso with 15gm of beans.

15 gm -> 55 gm is a long shot? my usual brew is 16 gm beans -> 32-35 gm espresso, for my latte of course.

Yours should be ristretto i believe.

So far in terms of espresso shots as what ive been practicing

7-8gm coffee - 30 ml yield - 25-30 seconds - single espresso shot
14-16gm coffee - 60 ml yield - 25-30 seconds - double espresso shot

7-8gm coffee - 15 ml yield - 25-30 seconds - single ristretto shot
14-16gm coffee - 30 ml yield - 25-30 seconds - double ristretto shot

But like you, most beans ive tried at
15-16gm coffee = 35-40gm of espresso = 28-30 seconds get quite good tasting shots.

Nicely put, how do you do a 7-8gm coffee - 30 ml yield - 25-30 seconds though? My one cup single wall filter will be dripping like water fall  laugh.gif  * remembering the days where I have insufficient beans for a full cup *
*
lol ...i tried 7 grams once on the single wall filter...like you said it drops like waterfall...even after some mad tamping skills it still flows too fast. 7 grams per shot of espresso is merely a guide i guess.

Most cafes today ive seen still pulls a full double shot in 2 small glasses and only uses 1 shot for each drink.

I would say espresso is anywhere from 1:2 to 1:3 ratio but don't worry about it, end taste is the most important

Split shots work only when coffee used is body focused, not flavor
On thirdwave style, lighter roasting means more sweetness but milder body so you will see typical doses of 18-22g range, extracted 40-50g espresso into ONE cup. More focus on flavor but needs more coffee to cut through milk
*
Would sure like to venture into thirdwave style coffee...but my current equipment wont be able to pull out the best of these types of coffee. Entry level equipment.

I previously tried their espresso royal. Did something about 18g dose 36g yield in about 35 sec shot time (from first drip).
It can cut through about 5 oz of milk.
I wouldn't worry too much about the composition of the blend. Its the taste that counts and your preference.
*
True, how was the taste of the espresso royal..it says fruity in the description..any hints of it at all?

laundry detergent grade crema... get what i mean? lol
*
Lol that looks bad, but the shots that ive pulled with the mister coffee espresso classic is with a non pressurerized portafilter, thus could be attribute to the large quantity of robusta beans in that blend.

Btw my old trusty 5 year old saeco just popped while brewingg juat now. With a 3k budget what do you guys recommend?

Breville bes820
Welhomen kd270
Or any other suggestions?

Back to press coffee for me for now...
