Much thanks for sharing! Will definitely look into the wand extension.  That trick with beginning the steaming before the light comes on is brilliant!

My setup is identical to yours (Poemia & 600N). Good to hear that the grinder 'works'  with a depressurized. I wasn't going to try depressurizing until I attempted the PID mod first though .... temperature surfing is so stressful & even more so when I'm in a rush in the morning & still want to pull 3 shots.

I'm now sourcing the components for the PID mod locally. Lazada seems to have a few Rex C100 kits that come with SSRs and type K thermocouples though so far none with RTD sensors which I understand are more appropriate for this mod.

If I am successful I will share my attempt with this forum.

I'm interested with the your PID project, please keep us updated!

I think that depressurizing has a larger effect on your shots rather than temperature. You might want to go ahead and try it!

I have replaced my pressurized basket (Delonghi EC155) with a normal basket, and this impacts the shot more than temp surfing.

For the temp, I warm the machine for 30 mins, prior to locking in the shot I put it in steam mode. Once the green light hit, I flush for one second (vapor from group), lock and pull.

More than half the time I would get consistent bottomless pours. Taste-wise, it's not too bad... lol.

Hi lowkl,

Sounds like it's too fine, you can try:

1) Coarsening grind and updosing (I used 18g and shoot for ~50 g). Grind straight into the PF.
2) take a toothpick and swirl it around the grounds (WDT).
3) tap the sides twice. tap it on the counter twice.
4) I don't tamp full 30lbs, I find a light tamp and polish works wonders. Tamping too hard screws up the puck, hence channeling at finer grinds. Tapping the PF post-tamp will creates cracks between puck and PF, causing super-fast flows and spritzes.

HTH. YMMV, this works on my setup and grinder, but I'm not a pro, so some of the things I wrote could be against conventional wisdom. But you can just try it, it worked for me.

That's strange, watches are exclusively tax-free, AFAIK? Ordered some >2k, never taxed before.

Maybe we can consider a group buy of the Europiccola from a European vendor? Without taxes and incl. expedited freight it's around 2.2 to 2.3 k each. Could save on combined shipping.

Anyone interested in my Super Jolly? New grinder incoming.

Optimized for single dosing (chute flap and doser funnel installed).

With the Mini hopper and new burrs, which you don't need to season as it has seen some use, save you some beans. Still left 300+ kg in the burrs.

Bean retention is minimal, ~0.5g. The doser eliminates clumping and there is no need for WDT.

Hi Guys, any decent semi auto espresso machine reccommend? Currently I am looking at WPM KD-210S2, any other cheaper but decent option?
Besides, my grinder is WPM ZD-15

Thanks

Do you drink lattes mostly? or like doing latte art? or straight shots?

For straight shots, go for vintage levers (Europiccola). But you need good beans, good grinder and willingness to learn.

For best quality shots under 4k, a used 1964-1973 La Pavoni and a OE Pharos/used SJ or other 64mm grinder will do the trick.

For others, your machine should be good enough, or even a Delonghi EC155.

I suggest getting a good brew grinder and good beans, and not venture into espresso at the moment. What beans you are using currently?
