At the moment I'm brewing coffee using aeropress and a china scale(it fluctuates +-1g.. but not complaining for a cheap stuff) to weight and measure the amount of water. Now I need thermometer after more than year not having one..
So, suggestions?

QUOTE(Castreal @ Mar 14 2018, 11:06 AM) I've been using a Weber 6492 Original Instant Read Thermometer for the past 3 years. Bought it from Amazon when I was in US. Cost less than $10 which is relatively cheap for a digital, compared to the ones that were available here 3 years ago. Still working great. Sounds good, I'll scout around for a cheap forwarder or else have to wait til Raya for a friend to go to the states.Perhaps if you have a friend coming back from US or look for forwarding services (I think there are some here in LYN), can consider this. How's people brewing their coffee here? Short scroll shows that mostly is into pour over, but it takes longer time to brew early in the morning |

Good day addicts!
Anyone can help recommend me a cheap scale? I use aeropress at home so only need it to weight the beans. Dont mind paying slightly extra if it looks nice and made of metal rather than plastic. Oh also thermometer, been making coffee without one for two years lol. |

QUOTE(EatSleepWork @ Jul 10 2021, 11:33 PM) So glad I found this thread. Overall, nespresso and espresso dont share much of the same property except that they're both produced from coffee beans. They will not taste the same, but with much less work using nespresso. I wont say that it is subpar, you can get pods from good roasters and it will taste good for consumption. But home brewing with espresso machine means you need to enjoy making coffee, not only drinking them.I love drinking flat whites and usually get it from a cafe near my office. Now that I work from home a lot more often, I have been making instant coffee in the morning. Been thinking of trying to make my own flat white at home but don't want to invest too heavily in a high end machine. I came across the nespresso machine which boasts up to 15-19 bars of pressure and costs a fraction of the price. I could even get those reusable pods and fill it with different coffee beans until I find one I like. My question is, how much more worse is the espresso pull from a nespresso machine compared to the ones that are being discussed here? Is the nespresso gonna give me super subpar flat whites? If you are keen to learn more on home brewing, maybe start with simple coffee making like aeropress/v60/moka pot but they're consumed best without milk. Each will give diff kind of taste but will be a lot cheaper than getting an espresso machine. |

QUOTE(EatSleepWork @ Jul 11 2021, 01:57 PM) Was considering the V60 and moka pot as well. But for moka pot I only found one pricey one which is compatible with my induction cooker. That's good enough. Its a lot of experimenting moving forward with grind size, water amount, time to keep you going for months. U can add temperature too once you are comfortable. From what I gather I will need to get a pouring kettle, a grinder and a weighing scale along with the v60? Anything else I missed? I've tried the aeropress before but somehow didn't enjoy the coffee. |
