Hi all the sifus here,
I’m not sure am still a newbie or what, I owned a Breville BES870 for about 3 years now, but the past few years, I never actually go deep into details on grinding, dialing, yielding and etc until this MCO came by. All the while I just pull the espresso and steam the milk then put everything together! I bought the beans from Australia(either ask my friends or relatives whenever they are there help me to get) this is because when I study there I visited one of the coffee shop almost every single day, and finally graduated and back to Malaysia, I couldn’t find any similar taste of latte here. So I decided to get myself a breville to fulfill my small little coffee addict. I even specifically get exact type of soy milk what Melbourne barista/cafe been using to get the similar taste!

Up until this MCO, All the beans used up and no one can travel to get me the beans! I have no choice but to search for beans at local. This is also the time where I started to look into detail and found out that I’ve been doing something wrong all the while.. haha.

Is there any sifus using breville BES870? Is this good? Because I couldn’t get to pull a consistent shot, as what the net has been telling me on, the brew ratio of 1:2. If beans 18g, you need 36g on 25-30s... i tried many time, increase the dose, grind finer beans and etc to pull a good shot that fall between the so called golden ratio. It just keeps on failed, Is either the pressure goes too high/over or The espresso came out too fast and ends too fast with over the desire ml/g. I just couldn’t get the in between even with small adjustment.

For example: My brew time is either 10-15s reach 40-60g but good pressure or the gauge went too much over and makes the espresso bitter and sour but the amount of espresso is just right at 25s-30s with 36-40g.

Any sifus can help on this? Appreciate a lot! Thank you!

My beans are freshly roasted, and they mentioned these beans won the bronze medal for latte 2017?or18? They all roasted in Malaysia anyway.

so far only that one time i went in to drink at the cafe itself  smile.gif
also decent but I'm not sure they roast the coffees in KL itself or get it imported from Aus
*
they have a roasting factory/shop at kota damansara. It just nearby my office place, which I only need 5 mins drive to travel there. Now they even opened up a cafe at Tropicana Garden Mall.

You somehow managed to leave out Reframe Coffee (www.reframecoffee.com) from that list tongue.gif
Do you prefer hand- or electric grinder? Grinding for filter or espresso?

What do you think of Cottle's Supreme blend?
I'm pretty sure Cottle does have their own roasting facility. They open it up as a co-roasting place for other roasters as well.

I prefer electric grinder. haha grinding for espresso.

so far it taste good and quite similar to what I tried in melbourne, but I feel a bit different when try making latte from Milk.
I uses BONSOY soy milk to make latte most of the time, it actually make the whole latte nicer.

Thumbs up for the almost zero retention.

There're however differences with the use of flat and conical burrs.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/driftaway.coff...s-burr-grinder/
If you can tell the detailed taste difference, then this point may be valid to you:
"Generally, conical burr grinders are said to bring out individual and bright flavors, such as those of exotic African coffees. Flat burr grinders supposedly meld and enhance darker notes, such as the nutty and chocolaty flavors of South and Central America."

As for the flat burr grinder I used. Did a bit of mod by changing the hopper, use of bellow air pump, removal of chute etc. the retention is still quite a bit +/-1g. Anyway, am used to do tapping to make the retention minimal. Will live with that till I can afford the next one. To me, they should consider improving the design.

Really, if can't tell detailed taste difference, then Niche Zero is the best mi- budget option grinder.

if got budget, and order through indiegogo, with all fees+custom in less than rm3000.00 do you think is worth the price?

which soymilk would you recommend?

EDIT: just read you used BONSOY, thanks!
does soy milk need to be 'actually soy milk', those common soya bean drinks/milk is not proper right?
*
I'm not expert on this, but those common soya drinks should have already added sugar for direct drink i think.

Yea, i have seen this and others in shopee and lazada, but most of it doesn't have 0.40mm x 75.
cause the inventor mentioned 0.4x75mm, so only from china has it... looking forward and hope it fit perfectly XD

interesting.... mine s 58.5mm.

so with tht...we kinda hv 2 shower screen?  hmm.gif

Yea. there were some youtube videos shows and compare. although it doesnt show much effects to your general coffee taste but for home espresso, this could help you less coffee attach to your upper shower screen as well.
And like WHITE APPLE mentioned. it helps you create less channelling.
