QUOTE(lowkl @ Jan 30 2018, 06:41 PM) I've only had Hario Slim, Hario Skerton and Handground. Slim failing within There's Skerton selling for less than RM190 on Lazada. Keep hunting. QUOTE(built @ Jan 30 2018, 08:30 PM) Bought it on 12th Nov, photo taken on 29th Nov.Picture paints a thousand words. Hexagon (or penta) bit rounded off, lose grip. Manufacturer wouldn't honour warranty claim. So I went ahead and bought a Skerton. This post has been edited by Harddisk: Jan 30 2018, 09:25 PM |

QUOTE(built @ Jan 31 2018, 01:35 AM) Handground was a Kickstarter project. The handle is vertical instead of horizontal. Easier to adjust grind size and more consistent ground due to its design. Surprisingly, grinds faster than Skerton does, despite less effort.OTOH Skerton's hopper is made with slippery plastic. Always slip when holding it, hence very tiring during grinding. Don't want to hold the glass portion, as it might stress the threaded area. Just checked Skerton Pro, combined the best of Mini and Skerton. Plastic hopper cover, better than silicone, as silicone is dust and coffee ground magnet. Easy grind size adjustment, like the Mini. Added silicone ring around the hopper for better grip! No idea how's the inside of the handle that goes over the stainless steel shaft. Might have the same stripping problem like the earlier Mini. Good improvements overall, should've got it right on the 1st version instead of 3 iterations. I'm still hunting for Hario V60 Drip Thermometer. A piece of advise, if you're going for dark roast beans, cheapo Hario Slim grinder will do the job well. If you prefer medium roast beans, invest more for a Handground grinder. Otherwise, use machine.
I've broken Hario Slim (stripped the tread) and Hario Skerton is 1/2 dead. Reason, cause I prefer medium roast for my V60. |

QUOTE(built @ Jul 23 2018, 09:12 PM) looks like the top section for the handle, is it? Hence Hario Slim is not recommended if you're not using it for dark roasted beans. Sure die like mine.that area seems to be the weak point for the mini slim and for the skerton, its wobbling of the burr. Hario came out with the "plus" models to specifically improve these areas. So far my Handground is doing an excellent job. Just bulky, not meant for travelling. |

QUOTE(built @ Jul 23 2018, 11:14 PM) have you seen the improvement of mini slim plus new handle? Is there detailed photos from website? I've not seen those + series of grinder from stores (I used to check out Hario stuff in Parkson i have not used a handground. how much is it? how does it perform against than those RM250-ish MIC? Handground cost me RM400. It was a Kickstarter project came to live, by coffee enthusiasts, sponsored by coffee enthusiasts. So they know what they want from a grinder. Go online and check it out. There are a few cafe offering it. Could drop by for a demo. My first impression of using it was, "Wow, this grinds faster than my Skerton" |

QUOTE(built @ Jul 24 2018, 01:18 AM) pic from internet. It's still hexagonal design. Should've made it square instead.[attachmentid=9934545] maybe you will see the differences. do note the difference in price between the two grinders. fyi, the aforesaid MIC can grind 15g medium around 30s. I doubt it would last too. Haha. |

QUOTE(alvinfks78 @ Jul 24 2018, 04:56 PM) Hey, I'm using V01 for 20g ground with 200g water. It's fine. Can brew up to 40g ground anyway.Do you guys think I need a HARIO V02 dripper? currently I am using HARIO V01 glass Dripper. Brewing 16g coffee to 266g water (using Chad Wong's recipe) Reason I ask is I remember I bought last time the V01 dripper. the mini manual/leaflet inside says for brewing with 12g - 14g coffee? Got advice for me. Thanks. QUOTE(Keng @ Jul 24 2018, 05:46 PM) I've seen such suggestion on YouTube. But I don't have power drill. Definitely saves a lot of time. 🤣 |

QUOTE(luvox @ Jul 27 2018, 06:57 PM) Anyone own La Marzocco for home use? Saw mudah.my La Marsa coffee supplies, Linea mini rm18.9k & GS3 rm29k. I seldom visit cafe, but drank once coffee brewed with La Marzocco, fell in love with it. Im not coffee snob & not much cafe coffee drinking experience from different machine, dont know worth it not to get La Marzocco or it is just due to myself bias over branding? 😂 At which cafe you had your coffee? Let the pro here go survey look c look c. |

QUOTE(Ryou @ Sep 5 2018, 09:57 PM) However, you will see some master prefer the plastic version (like Scott Rao) because when brewing without preheating, plastic version doesn't suck up all the heat so the water temperature doesn't drop too much during the entire brewing process. This is quite contradictory. Firstly, you preheated the dripper. If the dripper has best heat retention, then it won't suck up all the heat.QUOTE(Ryou @ Sep 5 2018, 09:57 PM) This is just based on my own experience. If your water flow is determined by the design of the spiral, you might be doing it wrong. Cause obviously you have flooded the dripper beyond the brim of coffee. Just soak the ground, don't flood it. Hence the coffee could drip out at the bottom.Flow rate really depends heavily on the coffee ground. Grind size, meh. Some ground expands quite a bit and jammed up the dripper. Just my 2 cents. |
