Even Aeropress/French/Mokapot with a Timemore C2 grinder makes a better coffee than Nespresso.

Hi all, looking to buy a budget and beginner friendly espresso machine. Budget below 1k if possible for the machine.

I am looking at delonghi ec685 (secondhand) and gemilai crm3605. Any thought and which should I go for?

got gifted this for Xmas...


blend of few beans... interestingly its of different roast levels, mostly medium-dark, and little bits of medium and medium-light... I can't recall seeing blends like this... looks a bit like uneven roasting... lol



medium body... nothing bad... nothing special... good safe starter coffee I guess...

Hi, I also looking for one to replace my current Morphy richard 172002.
That was my first Machine but I wonder if anyone know if Delonghi is better than Morphy richard? From the look they are better but why?

Where can I buy niche zero grinder now .. can’t seem to find it on the web ?

I was struggling the longest time with just getting the grind size right. Like even 1-2 ticks off would destroy the yield. So took me a long time to get the proper yield range and even when I managed to do it the espresso quality wasn't great (i.e. no crema at all). To ensure it wasn't an issue with the beans I tried beans from multiple sellers (mostly locally roasted). By the end of it all, after hours and hours of trial and error, which includes hours and hours of watching YouTube and reading guides, I still can't figure out why the espresso I'm extracting isn't great. Hence, moving on. Also my outlook has sorta changed after getting my hands dirty with actually preparing coffee the right way. I don't mind not getting great coffee as I'm now willing to accept just "good enough" coffee in exchange for convenience.

I'll still hang on to the Flair and Izpresso though as I'll probably give it another shot eventually.

Hello everyone.

After years with my dolce gusto machine (still serving me well in the office), I plan to start my journey in making my own espressos, lattes and cappucinos. Thus i've been looking for a suitable espresso machine and a grinder.

After doing much online reviews, I've come up with the two espresso machines for my rm3000-3500 budget for grinder and machine:
1. Solis barista perfetta
2. Breville bambino plus

This rabbit hole of research has led me to believe that breville machines may be suspect in the reliability/longevity department, thus i'm leaning to the solis machine.

For grinder, I've seen a 3 year old baratza vario for rm900 on carousel. Scared about buying a used machine, though.
From what ive read here and other forums, the wpm zd17n has some issues with retention (is retention a big issue to handle?)

Decided to go for milesto em19m3 to upgrade from my delonghi e860. Recently my e860 porta filter will unscrew itself. Already tried changing the group head gasket but still does the same. Previously even if grinded too fine also won’t have this issue. Only very slow extraction.

J coffee said will be shipping out by end of feb earliest.

Why is it bad?

thermoblock steamer... will get scaled up over time and more difficult to clean...

otherwise is ok lah for the cheap price... good starter machine to get learning...

Gaggia is solid build...long lasting... heat up fast... but the boiler is too small... brew temp drops too much... not easy to get consistent extraction... also the new models are 14 bar n very hard to adjust to 9 bar... can also runs out of steam...

Breville is mostly plastics... uses thermoblock with lots of electronics...but good thermal management... iirc small 54mm filters not standard 58mm

I put '?' because never play with milesto. I have the old Gaggia... fun to play with... updraded after 2 months... I still kept it as backup because I'm very familiar with its quirks and have work arounds to get stable temp n steaming... but don't recommend it

Thinking of Briville Bes 500 (with smart grinder) or Bes870. Can anyone mind to share your experience using these machines or pros coms you know of? I am nww to coffee machine myself... been using aristo myself, the capsules coffee is just so so.

Or any entry level machines you suggest?

Gemilai 3605 and a WPM grinder..... or better DF64 grinder.....

gemilai 3605 is an entry espresso machine.... suitable for new learner. It uses 58mm porta filter which is the same as many enthutiast or pro machine.

WPM zd 16 grinder ~rm800

Df64 grinder ~rm1500 (good reputation as in good grind quality)

Depends on your budget..... there are a lot of video on youtube comparing these machine and grinder.... choose 1 that fit ur budget and enjoy the greatness of fresh coffee.....
