yeah... marketing ppl is confusing everyone nowadays calling them fully automatic

if you visit major coffee retailers... these grind, brew, froth all in one machines are classified under super automatics

you won't taste sweetness like a sugar drink for sure

there IS sugar in beans and during roasting they get caramelized... a cup probably has about half gram of sugar

so sweetness here is mostly relative... some people can distinguish smaller fractions some don't... someone who has minimal sugar/sweetness in their diet can probably taste the differences more...
*
I got to admit I have sweet tooth but also known to have slightly sensitive taste bud... Perhaps I can only differentiate through testing multiple beans at the same time

Hi, I have been brewing filtered coffee for a few months already. I always hear people mentioning "sweet" in their coffee. However, I do not really understand that because I just do not taste sweetness in my coffee. I initially thought that I brew it wrongly. Hence, I ordered pourover coffee from other cafe and I still do not taste any sweetness. The closest I ever tasted "sweetness" in my coffee is when I breath through my mouth after a sip or drink water/salivating after a sip. Is there any layman description for sweetness in coffee?
*
As suggested by the other forumer, try to reduce your daily sugar intake. Stop drinking sweet drinks, etc. Then you will probably be better able to discern the sweetness in your filter coffee. However, this perception of sweetness varies from bean to bean, and it depends on a lot of factors, from the cultivar, the processing method, the roasting level and lastly your brewing method. So don't expect to taste it every single time.

Just started my journey in coffee. Currently using French press method and considering buying Timemore c2. Is it worthwhile to invest the hand grinder for frenchpress coffee?

It's always a good idea to get a grinder, as grinding just before brewing is a practical requirement to fresh coffee. I haven't used the C2 before but had a Slim, which was pretty decent. Another brand is 1zpresso which I have used 2 models (Z-Pro, E) .... extremely well made. Also look at ACE ...the 48 can be used for espresso but does a decent pourover as well; alternatively the Z1 can do coarse to pourover.

I have the C2 but not using it much anymore. It's good value for money and is very fast, but it generates a lot of fines. But for french press, should be ok.

For pour over coffee, should I go for v60 plastic with paper or cloth filter? 1st timer for pour over coffee

You can try our beans out... We are micro roaster called Putra Roasters. Currently have 2 types of medium roast blends. Today is last day promo on Shopee. RM 10 off for 2 packs order.

https://bio.site/putraroasters

Putra is suitable for milk based espresso drinks & French press.
Rajah is good for straight black & V60 pour overs.

i personally prefer the standalone v60 drip and decanter.. if anything breaks, i just need to replace that part.. plus putting a nice decanter on the table looks better for serving. Have been using the timemore glass v60 with the provided paper filter. so far have been adjusting brew time by manipulating the grind size. However, i find that if i grind too fine to slow down the brew (target brew is 300ml @ 3:30 min), i'll get lots of stuck grinds on the side of the filter when brewing.

Have to buy more filter papers soon and i'm seeing alot of Hario bleached paper on shopee.. noticed that there's two type of packing, one in plastic wrap, the other is in paper box format. Is there any difference in the two papers? someone i know mentioned that the box paper flows slower compared to the plastic packing filter.

My brewer is the 1-2 cup size.

I prefer the box version, the inside is slightly ribbed brows.gif & thinner
the plastic wrap version, the inside is smooth, gets clogged easier

Currently I use the box version for Rao/JH's method & Cafec light roast for 4:6 method
