Gemilai CRM3605 is not too bad I guess.

If you want a superior espresso at around 1k budget, can consider Flair classic manual espresso maker. Of course need more manual labor, but manual espresso machine requires ZERO maintenance, compared to machine (aside from normal clean up).

Both Grinders that you mentioned are capable of grinding for espresso and filter.  depends on your preference if you prefer manual grinder or motorized one.

So either CRM3605 + Raccea or  Flair Classic + JXpro.

But a warning, espresso brewing can be quite frustrating even for those with high end machine and grinders  biggrin.gif

at last i go with flair pro 2. now looking for a grinder. i think i just pair it with the jx pro. can last longer. need to practice the preinfusion, bar monitoring, grind size, tamping hard or not, roast level, etc.. they said the practice can last till about 1month before can get used to the machine characteristic.

Wait....you do realise you are moving the budget limit you set in your initial post? The Flair Pro 2 is by itself well over RM1k.

Just to highlight the biggest difference between the Pro 2 and the Classic/Signature is the shot size. In terms of process it's only small differences, and pretty much the same (excellent) shot quality.

i got the flair pro 2 secondhand and at a good price point. rm1150 including diy milk steamer. my rm1k just for the machine itself. for grinder other budget. i think it worth the money since the warranty left around 2years and half.

cafelat robot i heard better than flair. but it is not within my budget. so i have to ignore it.

hows the jx pro? does it worth the money to spend for high end manual grinder? im planning on using the flair+grinder for at least 5years or more. i dont like to buy something that feel the need to upgrade within short time. im the type of let the items be abit expensive, but worth ur money

The jx pro is a great grinder.
Near zero retention.
I can use it for 5 to 10 years.
Grinds 17g in 30 to 40 seconds.

been using the DF64 (aka G-iota, Solo, Turin) grinder for 3 weeks now.. Ran through almost 3kg of failed roast beans to season the burrs.

Am pleased to report it is a pretty solid single dose grinder for the price.. Mine came spec with Italmil steel burrs and my espresso grind setting is around -3 to -5 past the 0 mark. My zero point is about -10 (kinda hard to see because there's no mark). According to another forumer who swapped to SSP grind setting becomes more manageable due to SSP burrs' thickness. Burr touching point is on a higher ring number (10-15).

Grind rentention / grind exchange is very consistent... weigh in 20g, output is between 19.9g - 20.1g consistently with the use of the blower. I found that sometimes a rogue bean or two will bounce around on the burrs instead of getting ground up with the rest. Have to keep pressing the blower couple of times to get it ground up.. Do other users experience the same?

I Did blind taste of the DF64 and Breville Smart Grinder Pro with a couple friends (properly dialed in shots) and all agreed that the flat burr produces a shot with more clarity and easily distinguishable flavors compared to the muddled SGP shots. Waiting for SSP unimodal burrs to be restock at Lamarsa coffee and gonna swap it out.

For the price sold by J Cofffee, it is a very capable grinder for home use. Solid build quality and easy to maintain. Just some minor niggles and kinks which can be worked around.

Just abit of a plug... you can try out our beans which are quite freshly roasted. Check it out here - https://shopee.com.my/putra.roasters

For espresso based with milk drink, i'd recommend to get Putra Blend which is our signature original blend that kick started our coffee roasting venture. It is a blend of Java & Brazilian bean roasted to Full City (medium dark).
Flavour Profile: Cherries, Dark Chocolate, Nuts with hint of sweetness. Best brew temp around 92-95C.

Our Rajah blend is more suitable for black coffee such as pour over & siphon. its a trio blend of Sumatra, Brazilian & Columbian roasted to City roast (medium). You'll taste more citrus fruits flavours & brighter nuances.

i normally use fresh milk (farm fresh, farmhouse, purefarm, or goodday) whichever that is on offer & available at my grocery store. I've tried with UHT milk (full cream, low fat) and they generally i hate those milk.. Will only use UHT in a pinch where fresh milk is out of stock. They have a tinge of strange aftertaste which spoils the mouthfeel.

For steaming / foaming & latte art, fresh milk is the way to go unless you're lactose intolerant.

actually.. the grinder is quite affordable for a 64mm flat burr single dose.. Got it for RM 1499 with Italmil steel burrs from J Coffee.. needs to pre-order due to the high demand worldwide.
Built quality exceeded my expectation and grind results are quite good. I have a few types of beans which is switch between and not having to run beans through to purge is quite useful.

Any Hario grinder/Timemore C2 grinder, your final end will be at most Flair Neo. (50% espresso quality based on my comparison)

Until you start to upgrade your grinder.

You could fit an ACE48 hand grinder.with a Flair Classic for under your RM1500 pricetag easily (maybe even a 1Zpresso). No compromise espresso.
