I've done some quick search and saw some recommendation, still looking through, there are quite many posts.  biggrin.gif
However decent/premium hand grinder (Lido, Baratza Encore etc) are quite pricey ~RM600 and above.

I noticed there are some china stainless steel burr hand grinder (Anonymous? LingLong?), will check them out in detail later.
First time I heard about these china hand grinder.
Thanks for suggestion. I only grind for pour over now. I prefer hand grinder though due to portability + space concern.
*
There were quite a number of recommendation for premium copy for hand grinders at the range of between 200-300 earlier in this thread. Try to use the keywords like taobao or aliexpress alike.

Hey guys just wanna hear some opinions. Maybe it's a bit off topic, if you being asked why you prefer gourmet coffee/espresso over white coffee (you know the one roasted with margarine and sugar till burnt), what's your take?

As for me i wouldn't consider myself as a food purist but i'm all against anything that has artificial creamer in it. Be it 3 in 1, instant oatmeal, or even coffee served with "condensed milk", "sweetened creamer" mind you but all these creamers are nothing but palm oil processed with chemicals. Palm oil creamer also the very favorite choice for all food and drink companies due to its cheap cost.

Sorry, alright enough for all the lectures. Of course gourmet coffee is definitely the way to go because it's the only way to preserve the aromatic oil of coffee beans, and maybe the only way to appreciate its full potential.
*
I dunno about others but I don't mind that as long as they are good coffee laugh.gif . I drink latte/espresso on daily basis. On weekend when I go to kopitiam for breakfast, I'll definitely drink the coffee there or white coffee that you have just described.

IMO on food (or beverage like coffee), there is no such thing as 'only' way lar. That's just my take biggrin.gif

Check the hardness water setting. Most machine have this setting and is used to calculate when to prompt you to perform the descaling cycle, either by time or number of brew.

ic. My know my delonghi got setting to set water hardness, but i hvnt set yet.

Just to confirm malaysia water is "soft" right?
*
Your machine should've come together with the water hardness strip to test for water hardness. If it didn't, yeah, like @ymeng85 mentioned, our water here are soft.

Budget of 900:
What grinder would u guys recommend?

Using hario v60 and entry level preassurized espresso machine ( delonghi ecp 55? Forgot)

Eyeing at:
1) hario skerton manual - cheap, kinda decent grind for my use
2) baratza encore Rm760 - has static preassure issue (?)
3) breville dose control pro rm851 - impeller issue on older model ( not sure if harveynorman sell the latest revision )

Any more suggestions?
*
Among the 3, I'd go for encore. Breville has huge retention.

I'm conflicted between the Baratza Sette 30 AP and the Eureka Mignon Manuale. Can anyone offer any advice against these two grinders?
*
Sette 30 AP is more for drip/filter if I'm not mistaken. From review, Eureka Mignon is built like a tank but its not without its cons, static but this is not an issue for most.

I'm a sette 270 user myself

no screens or anything fancy, just a basic grinder with portafilter actuation

Thanks for all your replies guys, will defs contact him heh. Basically now I've got my eyes on a used baratza ecore for rm600, used bodum bistro for rm250, breville grinder pro new for 1k. Either I can get the encore or bistro next month or wait till christmas to get higher end stuff.

Also heard some decent reviews of the welhome pro zd10 and zd15, heard they r well made and relatively ok performance for the price. Any experience on that?
*
I used zd15 before smart grinder pro, had to add shims to be able to get fine enough but this is an easy mod. Its a lot easier to clean than smart grinder pro but the built quality wise, breville is better. All in all, its good enough for beginner.

Why not consider hand crank with your budget?

What do you think of the quality? I am comparing it to Nuova Simonelli Oscar II and the BDB seems a bit more plasticky. But I really prefer a PID-ed machine.
*
The BDB built is great, Oscar is more plastic tbh. Yeah, the PID and of coz dual boiler are the main reason why I went for it in the first place.

May I know how much when you acquired it? I don't see a lot of electronic shops selling it.  sweat.gif  sweat.gif

I brought it in from Oz, so i don't think the price is relevant sweat.gif . Harvey Norman definitely sells them. Breville even has authorised service center too in Kota Kemuning.

I am currently using the delonghi ec685m and the kg79 grinder. The shots pulled are highly inconsistent as some shot are good and I thought it have it dialed in. The next day, the shot may come out too bitter or too light.. I suspect it may be caused by the grinder. Looking to upgrade my grinder. Don't need too high end as I am using a pressurise filter but something that can give a more consistent result
QUOTE(lowkl @ Oct 25 2019, 10:25 AM)
I was thinking the culprit might be water temperature. Most consumer espresso machines use a simple thermostat. This either-on-or-off control can easily swing the brew water temperature by as much as 10°C. In most brew methods that's a huge difference!
I second this. When I first started with Philips Saeco Poemia, I had to do a lot of temp surfing. For brewing, I would wait for the brew light to come on and then immediately (or 5s, can't recall exactly) turn the knob to pull the shot. I had a help from a multimeter that supports k-type termocouple to measure the temp of water coming out from the shower screen when I was experimenting the exact time to hit the brew switch tongue.gif

The ec685m might be a bit different but the termostat behavior should still be around +/-10c.

Brewing is easy, the most difficult part is surfing steam temp on single (small) boiler bangwall.gif

I bought my BDB in Malaysia, Breville dealer near Kajang. It was about RM4,500 when I got it 3+ years ago, still going strong, have replaced some parts eg. the o-rings but otherwise no complaints.
Any other BDB owners out there that need o-rings for your BDB seals please let me know, I bought a pack of 50 several months ago and have plenty to give away for free, I'm not going to use them all  biggrin.gif
*
which part of the machine are those o-rings for?

Tubes between the boilers and the portafilter and other parts of the internal. Mine started to wear out within 3.5 years, but replacing them was easy and everything is like new again! Also I don't know why but the parts pricing in Australia is 2-4x higher than the parts pricing in the US. The group head seal for example is A$17 vs US$5.

Just in case anyone is looking for parts

Can PM me the cost if I want to get a set off your hand?

I am wondering, can Breville Dual Boilder fit in a small scale and a Loveramic mug under the portafilter? I don't have much experience with home machine, and most of the I used commercial machines with high portafilter. Thanks for the information biggrin.gif
*
yes definitely can. Those kopitiam glass mug is the tallest glass you can fit under the PF
