The other day i went to shop to take a shop to have ice thai coffee .... it seem nice and i get a sneak peek on their ingredient

1/2 jigger of condense milk (Mix with water because it seem watery when they squeeze out from the container)
1/2 or 1 jigger of milk
1/2 jigger of evaporate milk
1 table spoon of Some white powder which unknown to me (I assume it is vanilla powder, if anyone know, please advice it would be great)
2 shot of dark espresso
and crush ice (alot)
That ingredient sounds more like viet coffee simply because of evaporate and condense milk together and a lot of crushed ice. i might be wrong tho!! i bet the first sip is kinda "strong" with some caffeine kick and then the sweetness break through? then as the ice melts it gets better. well thats my first sip of Viet coffee in HCMC itself. rclxm9.gif

Btw any of you make pumpkin spice latte before?

what your cold brew recipe?

as for me, I'm using 100 gram of espresso blend bean, grind to the size for french press with 800 gram of water. Steeping time of 24 hours.

Result, deep dark full bodied taste minus the bitterness and chocolatey aftertaste. Good either with ice or with milk and ice.
*
Wow 1:8 Ratio for cold brew, interesting!! it should taste quite intense.... and but for french press grind size for 24H i think it should be good. IDK but good to know!! Thanks notworthy.gif

QUOTE(kuluuluk @ Sep 26 2016, 06:03 PM)
I don't use fresh beans for cold brew...  about a month old beans only i'll used it for such brew and use dark roast beans.  tongue.gif
*
How it taste?? hmm.gif i hate the smells of stale beans (Medium roast)!! so i can't imagine cold brew using them. maybe because you are using dark roast which i don't/never simply because i like bright/flavourful coffee.

QUOTE(Castreal @ Sep 26 2016, 06:08 PM)
I have some beans that are about 9 months old (I stored/archived them and forgot about it)... can they be used for Cold Brew?
Or just use as fertilizer?
*
Hey try em out and let us know it will be interesting to know!! haha else just ditch it in the garden! thumbup.gif

My cold brew recipe is usually 1:12 and beans that are close to 14 days after opening because can't finish in time. Peak time before the beans go stale.... i don't go as coarse as french press more of a drip/pour over size...and only 8H brew time! do it before bed time and wake up the next morning discard the coffee and the brew last for 2 weeks. Basically you will taste all the notes stated in the bag of beans minus the acidity.... awesome experience to taste!! rclxm9.gif

More expensive than yellow package magnolia fresh milk
*
Wow interesting!! where you buy from? btw haven't tried magnolia milk....maybe should give it a go and see.. so far my best and favourite milk is still 1. farm house, 2. farm fresh, 3. pura.

I regularly source my milk from local F&N supplier past 1 year, coz it is nearby my house & slight cheaper & definitely taste more fresh coz less cold chain breaking in transport & fluctuating shelf temperature. I initial emailed F&N asking for source, this supplier replied me.

This barista milk is good, froth nicely & taste better than magnolia yellow fresh milk. Was told it is near farmhouse grade.
It doesnt hv those strong taste of farmhouse.
Everyone expection is different for latte, hard to give proper review
*
Great to know!! thanks... time to pickup magnolia fresh milk then!! on cold chain breaking is true story..... sometimes supermarket staff treats milk and yogurt like on the shelf products, just put outside and delay placing it in the fridge which will affect its quality. have a great coffee week!!

Thanks.
Think i saw the hand grinder in Aeon before, but RM200 is kinda steep. Maybe i'll look for grinded coffee for a start, since im a newbie in this  biggrin.gif

What do you mean by both this statements? mind to elaborate?

Thanks for your recommendation, might order some grinded coffee to try from LeBistro Coffee.

Thanks for your advise. Will try out the beaten and unbeaten milk to see what's the diff  tongue.gif
for Ikea Moka pot, once the water boil we need to remove heat and just let the steam brew the coffee?
*
when i started i use to microwave the milk for 30second! will get the milk to the right temperature then use the ikea milk beater to foam it up. do not heat up milk in direct heat, as it will over heat the milk and spoil the taste.

Have fun brewing!!

Time to do some research.. Can't seem to find a head to head comparison between the two machines.  sad.gif

Is the performance a lot better than Rancilio? Some guidance please  notworthy.gif  notworthy.gif it's going to be my first semi-auto machine.

Coffee Ritual quoting Oscar 2 at 4k while Cuppa quoted Silvia at 3.7k

In terms of looks IMHO, I like the rugged look of Silvia a lot though. Oscar 2 is a bit too futuristic.
*
Woah HUGE difference. one is single boiler and another is heat exchanger. it will be better if you let us know what type of coffee drinker you are. Espresso or milk base, if Both then get the oscar 2 but then again at both the price better go for oscar 2. thumbup.gif

Search on mudah.com for some good deals too.

That video is skilled barista review. U wont find this distribution tool useful if ur dosing is at the portafilter lid level, able to distribute the ground with finger, and ur tamping is consistant.
I use single shot basket, personal reason. This distribution tool useful for people like me want to hv consistant good cup of coffee & dont care about traditional skill 😉 Furthermore it only cost me rm 60 plus rm13 shipping fees together with my other stuff purchased from taobao

It fit well and good solid metal 511gram
*
Thank you for your honest review. I'm a single dose person too and no i don't dose till the lips like what most pros do.. so i do find getting lvl tamp kinda frustrating at times, as i usually shake and use a stick to stir and tamp. but i guess under rm100 its a good deal and if it don't work it will be my weight balancer on the grinder. haha thumbup.gif

Papapalheta SG opened a Pre-order for Sette 270 at SGD 580. Let's just wait until the Malaysian branch bring it in. Considering its hype, the price tag is quite reasonable though.  brows.gif  brows.gif

yeah sette looks promising!! an all rounder grinder

There are some really good 2nd hand grinders around, Doser or doserless:

Haha, At least he got a good grinder for the k30 and he wont be worrying making bad coffee coz they are the most essential ones compare to espresso machine.

Dang, Super Jolly is that cheap.... I say for extra rm50, go and get the super jolly if he ever get a hands on one before the seller sells away. It was better then mignon all around.

I just brought my mignon if i knew a super jolly is about the price i would get it instead of mignon but for now, im quiet happy with mignon beside that it giving me a quick static shocks if i hold/touch the portafilter  doh.gif . Mignon is one hack of a messy grinder. It spew coffee ground all over the kitchen top when it grind unless you make a funnel for it which im having now by cutting the bottom of the cup.
*
Hahaha #thestruggleisreal yeah the mignon is indeed frustrating but it does its job pretty well... yeah the Mazzer SJ is a steal provided the motor runs and everything else intact. a replacement burrs are not too expensive. i just don't like it being a doser but that personal preference.

Hi all Sifus,
Planning to get an aeropress and manual hand grinder as a start in getting into coffee brewing. However, im stuck whether i should get a manual milk frother or an electric frother for milk based coffee?
Bte, i love coffee both by itself and milk based.
*

Ditto for me too!!! Burr size does matter in the flavour of the cup! but ofcoz if you want "multipurpose" (Limit to Pour over and espresso) grinder the sette is on the money!

Noob question: why sj over the sette yeah? What's one's advantage over the other?

one is proven commercial grade grinder while the other is new! or i should say just preference lah! coz i make espresso most of the time thus an SJ is a capable >10 years of performance.

Budget will be <2.5k
Currently I am just drinking pour over coffee.
At least the espresso machine can deliver kind of stable pressure, and can come out 2 shots per day with no prblem...
*
Or you can get a stovetop espresso maker with a steam wand for steaming milk?

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3958529

YEs its my pre-love espresso maker!! super love it and makes good coffee!! unless u really want a machine <2.5K will be the one low suggested! wink.gif

how much dose do you guys use for 2 shots normally?
here my details
1. i dose 17-18g - extract 36-40g espresso - 25s - into 8oz drinks - dry coffee puck
2. i dose 14-16g - extract 28-32g espresso - 25s - into 8oz drinks - wet coffee puck

for the 1st condition i need to tamp harder
for the 2nd condition i need to grind 1 notch finer and tamp light

does wet or dry coffee puck explain anything?
do u guys normally tamp hard? normal? light? no tamp?
*
Both should taste similar?

1 if you are using the same basket but different dose then yes lower dose will give u a wet puck because of the gap between the puck and brew head.

No the puck is not an indicator of anything except for messy cleaning, and whats important is the shot of yield and time.

Your tamp pressure will affect your yield time and also your grind settings nothing to do with the taste.

My recipe is dose 18-20g, yield 36-45g espresso - 28-32 sec into 8oz cup or sometime espresso 4oz cup!

It depend on ones preference..... Most nominated are Magnolia Fresh Milk (Yellow Box), Jura's Fresh Milk(Blue Box), Fresh Farm Fresh Milk (Orange Cap) or the Farm House Fresh Milk (Pink Box) ..... Worst performance are Dutch Lady Fresh Milk and HL Fresh Milk.... Rest are not that favourable
*
Magnolia is damn hard to get most of the time sold out!! vmad.gif farm house damn expensive cry.gif Fresh Farm OK but dislike packaging (Plastic bottle) shakehead.gif HL damn its my worst experience because lazy to go out buy milk puke.gif but now I'm using good day fresh milk which i think its OK and comparable to magnolia and more widely available.

Have a fantastic Coffee Week!! Shout out to Beanshipper.com Black Friday Sales!!! thumbup.gif rclxm9.gif

I always go to my nearest F&N supplier store to buy them

Btw are you home barista or owns a small cafe? the amount of milk! shocking.gif
