If you’re serious with espresso, I would not recommend a hand grinder because grinding for espresso takes a really long time; you’ll get tired of it and want to upgrade it later anyway. For sub 1k, can take a look at De Longhi Dedica grinder (https://m.youtube.com/watch?t=220s&v=SfQBqOGZPLQ) or a Breville grinder. I think Welhome also has some decent ones.
Can try Carousell or Mudah for cheaper ones. I saw On Carousell someone selling a 3 months old Breville Smart grinder for 670 (normal 1.2k). I know this may sound like a lot, but if you get this range it will last you a much longer time than buying cheap ones and keep chasing that quality you find hard to achieve. Go Youtube Seattle Coffee Gear or Whole Latte Love for some good advise. Hope this helps. |

QUOTE(patryn33 @ Feb 27 2018, 08:31 AM) Haha. Unless it’s the Lido or the Commandante? If he’s starting new with a lower budget he’s probably looking at Hario or Porlex type range. I concede that there are really good hand grinders, but the good ones are in the price range of entry level electric grinders. See which one floats your boat I guess. |

QUOTE(qqmeng @ Aug 14 2018, 09:55 PM) Guys... wanna ask: In my experience when I had the barista express, the grinder cannot go finer than what I needed. Only when I have super fresh beans I could get the right time/volume ratio.i hv got my grind size to the finest, tamp it as hard as i could and still could get 25seconds 44grams within the expresso range. What did i do wrong? Using breville barista express here |

QUOTE(Bryan89 @ Oct 28 2018, 05:02 PM) Hey im using baratza encore. Im not sure if you are famiiar but i just want to ask, the recommended grind size for a pour over would be around 12-14 but i find tht its abit too fine. Not sure if its the grinder or i didnt set it up right It's very hard to give a number because each Encore may be calibrated differently. You can check out on YouTube to see how to re-calibrate it, then retest your pour. |

Hi all! I'm looking for a cheap and good (I know those 2 doesn't usually come together) distributor for my espresso portafilter. OCD is just way too expensive. I'm looking at Lazada and there are a few options for the china made ones and I'm wondering if any of you sifus have had good/bad experience. Appreciate some feedback. Thanks!

QUOTE(lalala_lalala @ Feb 3 2019, 07:03 PM) hi guys..i wanna ask something about coffee grinder..i just got myself a eureka mignon...previously i was using the 600n china made grinder. I have a Mignon as well. If it's brand new and you are feeding beans in for the first time, 3g retention is common due to the grounds filling in all the gaps. Once you grind through a couple more rounds, your retention should be under 0.5g. I do a thorough cleaning every couple of months and I will get 3-4grams of old grounds. Is it normal for coffee grinder to have static issue? i noticed the static from mignon will somehow prevent the coffee coming out from the grinder...normally i will need to load 20g beans to get 17g grind coffee ... i never had this problem with my 600n grinder..btw im using a normal supermarket beans from lavazza. If you want the freshest grounds coming out each time, just prime the grinder by putting in 2-3g of beans before your normal dosage to clear any grounds from the last grind. Enjoy! |

QUOTE(4lt4ir @ May 23 2019, 09:45 AM) No oat retention in the grinder afterwards? Or do you have to flush the grinder with some beans first before grinding some for your next brew? I use the Urnex Grindz grinder cleaner for a real deep clean (every half year) on my Eureka Mignon. I grind about 40-50 grams of fresh beans after that to flush. However, I notice that even after I do that I still get some residue even after like 5 shots, but it is minimal and doesn't affect taste of the espresso, at least not on my tongue. I guess it depends on how much your grinder retention is also. |

QUOTE(fuzai91 @ Jul 18 2019, 11:47 AM) I'm conflicted between the Baratza Sette 30 AP and the Eureka Mignon Manuale. Can anyone offer any advice against these two grinders? Kinda depends on your machine and how precise you need your grind size to be. I believe the Mignon will give you finer control for espresso grind size, and Eureka grinders tend to be built like tanks and last you for years. I'm a fan of the Sette for its speed, but the 30 will feel inadequate if you have non-pressurised baskets. Hope this helps. |
