Hi sifusss,

I'm currently doing some research for my next coffee machine.
Read a little about PID, want to ask if it is really that important for us home user?
Also one of the factor in my next machine would be durability, would like it to last for many years.
Checked out on Breville online, seems to be quite suitable but then IMHO it won't last as long as those Bezzera's type of E61 group head machines.

The Rancilio Silvia is very simple and nice but it doesn't have a PID on it.
The Rocket Appartamento is also very nice, with HX, but it also doesn't have a PID on it. Also it is a lot more expensive than the Rancilio Silvia.

The service and repair for the machines also are quite important in case of things breaks down.
I know Breville service should be quite easy to find around Malaysia since a lot of places selling their machines. But for those like Rancilio, Rocket, or Bezzera, anyone knows where I can get them fix if there's a problem?

Any recommendations from all the sifus here?

Actually pid not really necessary for hx. The appartmento definitely more sexy

Just pulled a shot with naked portafilter. Flow is abit too fast from my set target. 17g in, 50g out approximately 26s. Can see some flaws with my distribution and tamping. Coffee is not bad though... waiting for my cheap coffee distributed to arrive to see if my extraction improves 😁

The crema is a little too over actually. Coffee might be too fresh
How's the taste?
I've pulled 20s shots that taste good too. Time is not really a necessary guideline more than just letting you know if temps/pressure suddenly went out of spec

Beans are almost a month past roast date though.

This is it looks after the crema had settled

Taste wise full and strong. Good for my latte. Will experiment around with the extraction time.

Sorry about the photo orientation. Just using my mobile phone.

Coincidentally updated my distribution tool with a paddle attachment yesterday... now easier to "brush" coffee out from my grinder biggrin.gif

I would need this to reduce the clumps on my coffee too. The Mignon grinds clumpy.

How often do u guys clean your group head with the cleaning tablets? and for grinder as well. my grinder is 2 years old and has never been cleaned internally nor serviced.

Weekly would be good practice to clean the group head... maybe a good time to open up the grinder and see what's between the burrs.

For me I'll just tamp till the coffee grounds are compact and holds in place. I guess harder Tamps can compensate for poorer coffee bed distribution due to the sheer pressure leveling out the grounds.

I don't feel that having extended time putting on pressure makes a difference? I could be wrong. Main thing is you have found a technique that results in consistency.
