IMO, Unless you are very close to your contract termination date & would rather be free, I say upgrade. I'm still on VIP10 myself but will be calling TM later to negotiate a favorable upgrade and I'm less than a year away from contract termination. My initial excuse for not upgrading last year was I needed the full 10Mbps upload speed vs 5Mbps being offered then. However, been reading around the forum &  it appears that TM has increased the Advance 30 plan to 30Mbps down & 10Mbps up. I'm not quite sure if the increase is officially available for new & upgrading users or just for existing subscribers. Higher download speeds at more or less the same price as the older VIP5 plan. Sounds right.

Unify has a better package than Maxis, seems they even include free 60 channels with the latest package.

Shouldn't have any additional charges for my upgrade so I guess should be ok to do so.

i wasn't aware of the change until i tested it this morning.

it was 5, now it's 10.

think it's across the board.

no need to think too much, just upgrade, about same price! thumbup.gif

Recommendations are just that, the minimum required as set by the provider, in this case, Netflix.. To them, that's the minimum they expect consumers to have in order to have a decent UHD experience & not have to blame Netflix later if a steady UHD stream isn't achieved. So having 30Mbps will be helpful. Besides, if we are talking about TM's Unifi plans, IMO, the Advance 30Mbps plan Is cheaper than the older VIP20 plan or incase downgrading incurs fees, perhaps consider the Advance 50Mbps plan... It's more than enough to simultaneously handle Netflix UHD + some throttled torrenting and or YouTube 1080p on other connected devices.

Thanks for the reply. I'm currently on Maxis 20Mbps. Paying cheaper under Maxis One Plan. No contract with them anymore. I'm thinking about increasing broadband speed and probably downgrading my Astro. Jump back to Unifi or stay with Maxis... hmm.gif

You are welcome. As per jumping ship, that depends on if the need for higher speed > current RM cost. First test the streaming results with the current Maxis 20Mbps & if still unsatisfied, then jump ship.. No need to hurry into a 2 year contract.. biggrin.gif

this is always a tough one.

i almost switched to maxis at one stage but i could not risk being capped on download GB's or throttled at certain hours, which was what i read in the broadband threads - not sure if it is true today or not.

the second factor was astro - do i need it? answer was quite clear to me, no need. on the other hand unifi's hypptv hd contents improved quite a lot.

the third factor was i realized the router is impt - changing to a better router improved everything all round - stability, max speeds and wifi coverage.

i have since upgraded (contract expired then) from vip10 to unifi30 at about same price, kept the same hypptv package and have all the speed i need for a total of 11 devices, incl uhd tv.

when the time comes that i need 50mbps for more powerful androids or more 4k content, i will not hesitate. biggrin.gif

hope u come to a good solution.

Been really enjoying the netflix content so far, although I am having problem with Netflix blocking VPN at the moment. I think the vpn providers are trying to resolve the issue atm. But if the local content are increased, there may not be a need for vpn..smile.gif

Rank Total Movies Series
#154 Malaysia 721 535 186

Officially Malaysia should have 535 movies and 186 series, but it does feel like the catalogue is smaller that the no reported above, right?

Give it awhile, they'll process your refund. Else contact their CS to expedite it. They are quite accommodating.

Obviously.. What with you having access the torrents, KODI addons, special streaming apps on Android, etc... tongue.gif.. For me, despite all that, I can still find new movies, shows & documentaries to watch while looking forward to Netflix originals like House of Cards & OITNB.

Better counter check with them while still early. I remember when signing up, they mentioned that you will not be charged until after the first month.

apparently, they keep your information for 10 months.

so, resubscribing will be a breeze during that time.

i would think any current smart tv of sony and other listed major brands will have it with latest tv firmware.

if broadband speed is good enough, smart hd tv will get hd while smart 4k tv will get 4k material in addition.

i have tried netflix for a couple of weeks now, one last week to go before the free trial expires. like to say:

.. easy to use, reliable
.. 4k material comes out excellent
.. hd material comes out very good too
.. subtitles - once set, u get it, even for documentaries, all there, multi languages
.. library content limited
.. will let it expire, maybe resubscribe in future (registration remain valid for 10 months)
