Remaining Kampung Chim squatters agree to move

THE remaining 30 families from Kampung Chim Lee in Kepong received their People’s Housing Project (PPR) offer letters at a ceremony in PPR Seri Aman.
Kepong Community Centre head Yee Poh Ping said Kampung Chim Lee has been occupied by the squatters for more than 50 years.
“A developer acquired the land for a mixed development project and of the 52 families affected, 15 agreed to the first compensation package but 37 did not.
“They brought their case to court but were not successful.
“We negotiated with the developer and they have agreed to give each family RM10,000,” said Yee.
The developer will also give them a 10% discount on the purchase price of the Federal Territories Affordable Homes Programme (Rumawip),” he added.
The compensation will be paid over two payments of RM5,000 each.
The squatters were given two months to vacate the land and move to PPR Intan Baiduri.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the squatters would pay a rent of RM124 per month.
