Hi everyone. Here is my dilemma . I were assigned to get camera & other related setup for a school.

Currently they own Sony A6000, so I asked suggestion in Sony Forum and they gave good guidance there.

Usage of this camera & setup : For passport size photo and during any events. Events here means not the whole event, they will assign profesional photographer to cover it. We will use this setup to take student and their parents picture before they enter the hall. Its similar to photobooth setup but minus the props & printing setup.

Suggestion I gave : Get softbox lighting kit & flash for the A6000. I surveyed the price for both items , continuous fluorescent lighting kit( 4 bulbs of 38W) cost around RM1k for 1 pair in DGColor, flash around RM900 (F43M).

Problem : Some of the staff's there dont like the A6000 because they feel it doesnt look like DSLR and might wont perform like DSLR. I tried to explain to them that this model capable doing the work we need but they still insist to get a proper DSLR. They feel this A6000 doesnt have pro look. doh.gif They suggested to get entry level DSLR like D3300,EOS110D etc. Yesterday some one suggested to get a 2nd hand EOS 650D ( shutter count 2714, RM900). I even told them, once we fix a flash on top of A6000 it will give the "pro look" and it will perform better if compared the entry level models they mentioned.

How do I solve this problem? Any suggestion guys? Should I stick with A6000 or get new DSLR ( budget RM2k) or just buy the 2nd hand EOS650D? rclxub.gif

Just follow what the client want and recommend it around their criteria. Its them who will use it. if u insist on pushing your criteria unto them might as well bought one using your own money.

P/s: "Pro" look wont help your shooting.

Dejavu. Last time i told a guy with your situation to get a dslr over mirrorless, i got blasted that i dont know anything and that i dont know mirrorless and that i only know big means professional yada yada yada. Its not what YOU want, its what the client need.

If you still insist on getting a6000, buy a battery extender to make it look big.

Thanks for the feedback. Im not againts with any type of camera. Im just giving my opinion on A6000's usability against similar priced camera from other brands but since they prefer DSLR I need to start back from scratch. Any DSLR models within same price range which can match A6000 capability?

are u part of the school staff?

passport photos? i seen shops using compact cameras for that tongue.gif

as for events? ur role is just to take simple portraits at one location before entering the hall? or is that location not fixed? indoor or outdoor?
then u will know if u should buy some lighting that is portable / more powerful...

as for getting a sony flash, are there any decent ones that arent expensive to do what u need?
for canon / nikon, for sure got...

D3300 is plenty good though personally i would prefer touch screen D5500. If mere photoshoot and event, you dont need that multi spread focus and frame per second deal.

Of course if possible get better and faster lenses cause kit lens sucks, no matter what camera model.

Again, this is recommendation if the camera ends up being school property. If you intend to buy this personally for use for school event, stick with your preference.

to be frank with u, most digital camera shop will only ask u to buy canon & nikon. so far, only studio zaloon, YL camera have wide range of professional equipment, and they're known as trusted resellers

sadly, i doubt there is any camera at that price point can match A6000.

maybe u can youtube some video of people explaining why A6000 is good camera and how it handle better then DSLR. i think jamie lanier or something has a lot video doing that. show those to your teacher and staff.
