Just don't go there man. Once double, people will expect double the amount next year. There will be no turning back.

However, it is fun to give 2 ang paos.

No law stated that, it's a tradition. U can choose to give 10 or zero also no problem.
U should ask ur self is ur "face" important or not.

Lets say to relatives you wanna give RM 10. So this year because of double ang pao, you split to 5-5. To friends you want to give RM5. So you split to 2-2? 2-2 just doesn't look nice. What I told my friend is that only single ang pao. all RM 5.

Do you guys practise this tradition?
This is because i have not heard of this before until working in KL.
One of my friend who works in SG said there is no such thing.

Thanks for your reply.

be smart about things like this. Old folks are very particular about this. Just give 2 lah..what's the big deal. Next year one only next year decide. Pay depending on market rate and your affordability.

Give with your heart with whatever amount you like, if people think less is their problem, people appreciate then is good for them.

Whether it's tradition or not, no one knows. Most of the people recognize this "so-called" tradition through hear say but if it makes the elders happy then we as the younger generation should just follow for the sake of compliance.

Yes, it is in fact an accepted practice that for the Chinese community, newly wedded couples are bound to give 2 angpows, each from the couple but it is also generally accepted that each of these does not contain a large or significant amount because everyone knows or should "pretend" to know that the newly wedded couples are short of finances so it's ok not to give RM50.00 or an amount in which you think you cannot afford.

Giving angpow is a blessing so don't give it with a heavy heart and then go back home and curse.

Unless you are known for being filthy rich, an amount between RM5 - RM10 from each individual will be sufficient.

Don't burden yourself with unnecessary issues.
