That's the catch.
Many Malaysian banks are now pushing Platinum or higher end cards to consumers who could not afford previously for a hidden reason.
Higher Annual Fees
At first you might feel privileged to get the offer but the annual charges can be quite shocking.
Like you said expect from RM400 - RM1k just for annual charges unless you can afford spending tenths of thousands.
I can't remember the requirement waiver for the World card offered to me last time. It's like close to RM100k to be eligible for the waiver. Ridiculous.
Anyway those who planning to go China in near future, can consider getting UnionPay prepaid debit cards from ICBC or BoC local branches in KL.
I'm speaking through experience here your Malaysian VISA/MC is just as good as useless now in many countries due to bad Ringgit reputation.
ummm... you know, if you go overseas and swipe your Malaysian credit card, the transaction will be in that country's currency, and the amount will be converted to MYR in your statement? You cant swipe MYR direct into the overseas merchant card terminal. Many Malaysian banks are now pushing Platinum or higher end cards to consumers who could not afford previously for a hidden reason.

Many credit cards are blocked by default by banks (to prevent fake cards with stolen data to swipe overseas) so the customer actually need to inform the bank they are going to xxx country, please allow the card to be swiped there.
